The kinda unspecified CRK talk thread.

Ok I have a dumb question. I know box and papers is important to some people for the value of these knives, but is the foam insert in the box important? I've found it's a real pain to get all the pieces back in the box with the foam, especially the leather slip once it's molded around the knife. I'm considering tossing the foam but keeping the box and papers, but the knives in question are somewhat collectible (large and small Sebenza 21 with mammoth bark), so I don't want to lower the value.

Yes, box and papers would likely include foam for most people that are into that sort of thing.

Speaking of the 'zaan, how long do the o-rings last? Do I need to have some spares on hand? Never had to think about o-rings on any of my knives. At least, not in the same manner.
Depends a lot on use and climate, 5years or so is what mine lasted. Spares are a good idea, wouldn't run it without them.

Speaking of backups - now that I got used to my Zaan, I have a large 31 Sebenza in Magnacut from the Exchange incoming. This time with inlays as my Zaan already shows snail trails. One for use, one for Sundays. I blame yoko yoko and Kettleman Kettleman .... :)
I am fully prepared to accept my part in this obvious case of enabling.

The inserts cut down considerably on the snails. Most of the wear that I see is on the pocket clip and a bit on either end of the frame. In other words on the edges of the frame near the blade pivot and near the lanyard.
I also coated the micarta on my keeper with mineral oil to hasten the darkening process. I like it darkened because it brings out the grain. Some may like it natural.

Blues Blues heres an example of what I was referring to that the Umnumzaan Tanto excels at. That secondary point is just perfect for the draw cuts.

Yeah. I was aware of that particular characteristic. As I recall...Nick Shabazz made a point of that, (no pun intended), in his review of the CRK tanto blade some time back.

Definitely a useful feature, imho.

Of course if I didnt buy and sell so many knives I wouldnt need all that packing material…..

Sometime late last night...the 'zaan "clicked" for me, (like a horse that has just accepted a rider), and found I no longer have to fight it.

Now I can deploy it nearly as well and consistently as my 31s, and can appreciate it so much more.

Definitely made me work for it a bit more than I expected...but it appears to have been well worth it.

(Hmmm, maybe I should rethink that tanto...)

I think this is the right thread for the sort of questions below. If not, please feel free to tell me.

What's the deal between the large Seb 25 and large Inkosi? I have never owned or seen either. Pictures on the net make them look fairly similar to each other.

After reading some posts about how "heavy and thick" they are, I'm now interested.

My next purchase is likely to be a 25, Inkosi, or Zaan. What do peeps in the know like or dislike about these models?

The 25 is the Sebenza HD! It is the knife that became the Inkosi after a few small refinements ( washers, stop pin and clip placement). It is the only Sebenza that doesnt sport the piviot bushing. I believe thats why it didnt take off as a “ Sebenza”. The early ones used a much larger (30”) wheel to grind so they are so close to flat ground its not funny. Late in the series they switched to the same 20 as the Zaan.
It is a real heavy duty folder that will take all you should give a folder and more. I prefer the 2013-2015 versions with the heavy blade myself.

The refinements the Inkosi got make it an exceptional EDC knife and most could get by with it as their only folder.

The Zaan is just so FREAKING SEXY! It’s my all time favorite knife. It is as tough as nails. It like that farm girl with a pony tail thru the back of her ball cap! Looks great working hard!

Interesting. I was under the impression that the zaan is hollow ground the same way as the Seb 21/31. But it's like the Inkosi?

Thanks, that's the sort of experienced and technical knowledge I was looking for. The only one I've ever laid hands on was a Zaan and I remember being impressed.

Anyone ever seen any of the three with a polished blade? I've seen on special dealer edition Zaan, but it seems that was a long time and no longer available.
