The kinda unspecified CRK talk thread.

I saw a comment that I came across recently, I don't remember by whom, or even when it was posted, that suggested that the blade could be damaged by the metal on metal contact without them.

Whether there is anything to that or not, I haven't a clue.
The o-rings will last at least a year or so depending on how often it’s used. I try to remember to rotate/spin the o-rings so they wear evenly. You’ll get a flat spot when they wear out. Not having the o-rings won’t damage the blade, but will affect the lock up. The lock up becomes late and may affect the blade lock interface when they’re put back on.

Idaho Maid ???

Good looking out, fellas. I had glass blasting in mind, but this knife spoke to me. Perhaps I will send it to Idaho for glass blasting. We'll see!

My micarta is glass blasted. It looks fantastic and shows almost no wear, but I prefer the regular blast. The micarta gets smooth from the glass blast and I prefer the rougher texture.

This would cause cognitive dissonance in my weird little knife centric universe. I'd end up with a gallon of those O rings. They'd be everywhere, so that I could replace them constantly.

I suppose normal people just use the knife and switch O rings when they have to.

Who are these normal people you speak of?

Im sorry, what...? I was distracted trying to figure out mean failure rate of the rings.

Now I know where to go when I need a few... ;)

Glad you and others here "enabled" me into getting one.

The 'Zaan Also Rises (Don't ask me, it just popped into my head while I was typing. Hemingway probably would have liked to have one.)

Quite apropos. You almost need a liver transplant after reading The Sun Also Rises because every character is always drinking. Similarly, there's this knife website where people sell organs to buy expensive knives. Hemingway may be lost, but still approves.

Apropos of nothing...when I was a young pup, one of my first jobs out of college in the middle 70's was as a salesman at the old Abercrombie & Fitch, (NYC), when it was still a world class emporium for all things outdoors. I worked in the Backpacking & Mountaineering Dept. on the 8th floor.

One of my clients was Mary Hemingway, widow of Ernest, to whom I sold a magnificent, one of a kind, copper tacked. lapstrake, cedar Adirondack canoe which was left on consignment by the maker whose name escapes me.

She had me ship the canoe to Margaux and Mariel Hemingway in Ketchum, Idaho.

She gave me the most wonderful of compliments when she told me one day that "Papa" would have liked me. I literally beamed. (As a fan of several of his novels.)

I have to be honest, The more I carry the 25 and 31 the more I wish my Inkosi was a DP not an Insingo.
