The kinda unspecified CRK talk thread.

I can give that a try. Thanks for the tip!

Thought it was the other way around though. For some reason I thought I'd need to chill the screw to shrink it (like put an ice cube on it)

It really shouldn't make much of a difference on something that small.
If you were trying to sweat a shaft into a new pillow block then yes, cold would be your friend.

There might just be some locktite or other gobbledygook in there that a smidge of heat might help break.

I don't think the parts on a knife like this would be subject to galvanic corrosion, but I'd almost liken it to pulling a head stud from an aluminum block.

Hope this is the right place to ask this. How do CRK guys feel about Shiros? I'm thinking about picking one up in the near future.

The stuff I've read seems to indicate that they have the same sort of quality as CRK.

I’m jealous. Try as I might, I haven’t been able to remove the clip on my large 31. Probably gonna need to cut a slot in the head. :(
If the other options fail, I'd feel free to cut the slot. I won't say that replacement screws are exactly cheap, but they are readily available and easy to swap. I keep a few sets in my parts bin.

While you're at it, get some proper wiha drivers. The tiny wrench in the box isn't worth much.

Sage advice Sir. I have a few extra screws in my CRK box. This is just one of those projects where I'm waiting for an hour to kill and have the courage to grind on a $700 knife. That, and I may have to locate the Dremel tool (which is probably the REAL pain in this project).

As it happens, you can see the CRK box (wife's old pocket jewelry box) and my screwdriver set of choice, in situ, at my gun cleaning/knife maintenance bench. I promise that this wasn't staged. Pay no attention to the RHK paraphernalia. In the words of Austin Powers, "Honestly, it's not mine."

Wiha makes the wrenches CRK includes.

The guy that introduced me to CRK just got one. Insane action. Comparable action to a Koenig Arius. Solid all the way around. I may buy a lefty if I find one on the secondary and the price is right. Only issues are loose bearings so disassemble at your own risk; and with current world situation, sending back to manufacturer in Russia could prove difficult or annoying.

There are at least a couple of brands, but that wasn't what I meant. I was referring to a full size kit. You can use the little wrench, but it's like using a Swiss army knife when you really need to be at a workbench.

Really? They kind of suck imo, the one I got with a june27 31 has issues getting all the way into the screws. They are also very thin and annoying to work with.

I prefer a good bit with a nice driver:

I tried the 1/4 inch sized Wiha set as well as the included wrench. The screw is STUCK! I'll get that puppy out though. You know that feeling when you are really close to stripping out a screw head? That's what I'm dealing with.

How odd. You'd think of an accidental dab of red loctite, but they don't use that stuff.
