The kinda unspecified CRK talk thread.

Since this is the unspecified CRK talk thread, I don’t feel bad about telling a long story.

Several of my buddies around here alerted me to the Small Regular for sale in the exchange. I don’t think anybody actually knew this, but that is literally THE knife I have been looking for. Small, Regular, 1998. I cannot afford it but it doesn’t matter, it’s so cool to see one for sale. Here is my story.

In 1998 I was in college. As a life long knife nut I carried a BM at the time. A class mate of mine showed me his new knife, and was shocked when I didn’t know what it was. “It’s a Sebenza!! You don’t know who Chris Reeve is??” It was BG42, after the change from ATS34. We were metallurgy students and geeked out on steels.

I had not heard of Chris Reeve at the time but was so impressed with the knife I was an instant fan. I was enamored with the Sebenza from that point forward. My wife (then girlfriend) remembers (repeatedly) going to a knife shop so I could drool over the Sebenza. I remember the shop owner was a great guy who humored me even though he knew I wouldn’t buy it. Like many people, I was a poor college kid and there was no chance of buying a knife for the wild price of $330!

I graduated, got a job, got married, and had kids much sooner than expected. Long story short I remained a CRK fan over the years but was never in a place where I could justify buying one.

Years and years later my wife looked over my shoulder as I was looking at “knife porn” (probably this forum) and she asked..”are you ever going to buy one of those? You’ve been dreaming about it forever. Just do it”.

And so I did. I bought a small 21 and several others have come and gone since. I bought my son a 31 for his graduation and he will carry nothing else. I’ve always thought I’d love to get a small regular, the knife that started it all. And someday I will!

That’s my CRK origin story.
Buy it! Treat yourself.

So I gave redoxmusic redoxmusic the measurements for the slips to be made. When I first got them I was very nervous because they were really tight and hard to get in. I should have just given him the msmnts from the crk slip but I’m an idiot. He offered to remake them at no cost even though it was completely my fault. Fortunately after only a day they have already stretched out and are much easier to get in n out. Also, an unexpected benefit is the compact size is actually very nice for storage. These are for storage only and not pocket carry. He had many leathers to choose from, these are buffalo leather, they’re beautiful and soft to the touch. I also had a wallet made!

His prices are extremely fair and he will work with you on quantity purchases! I will be getting a knife roll very soon! Pretty sure he can make whatever you may be looking for. Very impressed and will be giving him a lot more of my money!😂

Yea, I’m not sure I told him or if he’s familiar with crks. But it actually worked out cause I liked the smaller size for storage purposes. Fortunately it is buffalo leather that stretches out. After only a day they’re good to go.

If he knew it was for CRK's he could have suggested that too, but I dont know if he knew.

That's my mistake. While I'm not familiar with CRKs (mostly collect slipjoints), I should have googled CRK knives in retrospect. I probably would have found the slip on their site. But on the bright side, I've saved out a screenshot and taken down the measurements of the slips there. If I can learn something at the end of the day, I'm a happy guy. :)

It all worked out in the end, thanks again!

I noticed in the Inkosi thread some comments about carrying traditionals. There is a thread in the traditional forum about modern and traditional pairings and I notice CRKs heavily represented in that thread. The only modern folder for me is CRK. Been that way for a long time. All my other knives are traditional patterns.

I am wondering if CRK enthusiasts are often traditional enthusiasts too, more so than typical fans of other modern folders.

I think you are on to something with this. Actually the porch is where you and I “ meet” back in 2015. I’ve since moved from the traditional world and gone completely to the dark side.

Truth is what brought me to Blade Forums originally was the search for a small modern to replace the Buck 303 I had carried for a lifetime.

The Mnandi has replaced the stockman in the bottom of my pocket, I actually think of it as my “ pocket knife” just as I did the traditional.

I love them!

Sorry for the dust and ping-pong balls.

A new thing i believe - blue dark matter carbon inlays. At least, I havent seen them mentioned here yet?
Looks cool at first sight- maybe even hip, but ever so often what is cool now might not stand up to the test of time.
It could also be me. I'm not a huge fan of this type of carbon.
