The kinda unspecified CRK talk thread.

Final collection complete photos! I have 4 or 5 inlays still floating around trying to decide what to do with but this is the permanent Sebenza Collection I set out to build.

WEAK!

Still missing an H!

Since this is the unspecified CRK talk thread, I don’t feel bad about telling a long story.

Several of my buddies around here alerted me to the Small Regular for sale in the exchange. I don’t think anybody actually knew this, but that is literally THE knife I have been looking for. Small, Regular, 1998. I cannot afford it but it doesn’t matter, it’s so cool to see one for sale. Here is my story.

In 1998 I was in college. As a life long knife nut I carried a BM at the time. A class mate of mine showed me his new knife, and was shocked when I didn’t know what it was. “It’s a Sebenza!! You don’t know who Chris Reeve is??” It was BG42, after the change from ATS34. We were metallurgy students and geeked out on steels.

I had not heard of Chris Reeve at the time but was so impressed with the knife I was an instant fan. I was enamored with the Sebenza from that point forward. My wife (then girlfriend) remembers (repeatedly) going to a knife shop so I could drool over the Sebenza. I remember the shop owner was a great guy who humored me even though he knew I wouldn’t buy it. Like many people, I was a poor college kid and there was no chance of buying a knife for the wild price of $330!

I graduated, got a job, got married, and had kids much sooner than expected. Long story short I remained a CRK fan over the years but was never in a place where I could justify buying one.

Years and years later my wife looked over my shoulder as I was looking at “knife porn” (probably this forum) and she asked..”are you ever going to buy one of those? You’ve been dreaming about it forever. Just do it”.

And so I did. I bought a small 21 and several others have come and gone since. I bought my son a 31 for his graduation and he will carry nothing else. I’ve always thought I’d love to get a small regular, the knife that started it all. And someday I will!

That’s my CRK origin story.

You sir, sound like a responsible and patient fellow. It also sounds like you have a great wife!

Thank you for sharing that my friend.

Well that didn't take long....

My darling daughter, The heiress apparent and curator of my Sebenza collection, dropped buy to see her old pops last night and fondle my her Sebenzas. While we were chatting and she was begging for 500 rounds of 223 so her and her boyfriend could go to the range today she asked out of the blue why I don't have a 21 Tanto when I have 2 DP and a Insingo......

I told her I did but moved it as it just didn't seem to really be needed to tell the story. She says well then why the pre and post Idaho? DAMNIT! she's right! The 21 not only brought us the Insingo but also the production option of the Tanto. Yes the Tanto was produced first as a special run for NAIC but was released as an option in the 21.

off to the WTB section.
