The kinda unspecified CRK talk thread.

I'm certainly not among the experts, but it looks different, particularly in the choil. While they have not always had the same overall design that we see today, I've never seen a choil with a radius. I have seen hardware like that on other CRKs and I'm also aware that certain older ones did not say "Idaho Made." Not sure I've seen that clip before, but again, I'm not an expert.

Is it hollow ground? Hard to tell from the photos.

I'm furious. I was relaxed by the real box and papers and reputation of the gun store.
This video shows exactly the same fake model.

I would bet that the gun shop didn’t know it was a fake. Someone probably switched out the real one and slipped a fake in. Then they returned the knife for a refund. That’s what I’d guess.Good thing you bought it locally. You should be able to bring it back. Yeah, that sucks big time.

Torx screws are the first giveaway, CRK has never used them. The thumbstud was wrong, which is giveaway number 2. Number 3 was blade length. 4 was jimping. 5 is the likely missing if the date codes. I have a 2012 with the date codes. Sorry man.

I missed the torx screws :(

T Terrakot please let us know if the dealer will play ball with you and not give you any pain over it.

The store employees were stunned to discover that this Sebenza 21 was fake. They accepted it back with a full refund, since they do care about their reputation. One of salesmen had had Small Sebenza 21 for many years and even he didn't noticed that there's something wrong with the knife in the shop window.

Did they have a real one that you can get, or was the clone the only one ?

I thought these numbers might interest the group. I have a nice set of digital calipers, but I'm not an expert in using them. Please don't treat the measurements as gospel. I measured the blade stock thickness and thickness behind the edge (BTE) on my Sebenzas, all four of which are large drop points. I do not own any other CRKs, but I included a few other knives as a reference. The measurements are in inches. 'Murica!

A few things of note:

1) We all know that the drop point Sebenza thickens at the belly (as do some Sebenza users), but I always wondered how much. It's not quite as thick as I imagined.

2) The polished knives are thinner than the others. This makes sense, as the polishing media remove steel. It might just be in my head, but I always perceived that the polished knives pass through material with greater ease.

3) The thickest Sebenza in my collection is the stonewashed s45vn.

4) In every case, the blade stock itself appears slightly thinner than specified on the website. This could be explained by (a) my neanderthal attempt at measuring it, or (b) the removal of material during the finishing process, or (c) some combination of the two. The measurements were taken on the flat just behind the thumb lug.

After unlucky attempt to acquire the new small Sebenza 21 PJ, I ended up buying the Small 31 PJ NIB. As the little downside, this knife was made in March 2020 that means it has S35VN steel and possible lock rock issue. But to be honest, I've tried to rock blade on the both my S31's (March 2020 and Feb 2022) and they both have some movement up and down with quiet click. Dunno if it's a lock rock issue or not.

On one of the larger sites a large 31 in ladder damascus is 680 USD whereas a small in raindrop damascus is 675 USD.
On the same site, a large PJ 31 is 500 USD whereas a small PJ 425 USD.
Anyone knows the reason for this? It seems very odd.
