The kinda unspecified CRK talk thread.

Anyone have any success with getting a new blade from CRK recently or should I just call? I’m wondering if they’ll sell me an insingo 21 blade.

Someone here recently had one rebladed, you’ll have to send it in for them to replace the blade. It will have to be fitted by them.

I recall seeing that post, I can’t remember who posted it. I’ll give em a call.

ETA: yep, I need to call them.

For an Insingo blade, it had to be Insingo before. If it had a different blade shape, they won't make it an Insingo

I found in local gun store a brand new small PJ Sebenza 21. Can't decide if I should grab it since the 21 is the legend and in the near future it will be hard to get them in NIB condition. Or better to move forward and try to get 31 PJ? The last option is also uneasy - availability in Russia are getting worse.

I'd say grab it if it's at a reasonable price. I have a large 21 and a few large 31s when it comes to Sebenzas. TBH I like the 31 better. I know that's blasphemy but I just do. I love the 1 click locking.... (best way I could think to describe it). After experiencing it in my sebenzas, inkosis, and my umnumzaan it's almost a disappointment when I open my other frame locks. Something about the way that ball rides the blade then snaps right into place is fascinating and satisfying to me.

The 21s offer the chance to get discontinued inlays - spalted beech, snakewood, coco bolo, striped platan, thuya, etc. - that have been discontinued as of late, not to mention Devon Thomas Damascus. These discontinued models won’t be around much longer at reasonable prices. CRK has reduced their inlays to bog oak, box elder and macassar ebony (as well as the standard micarta versions) - and no new Damascus as of 1/1/2021. The only Damascus currently available is Chad Nichols and that’s not even available on new orders. There are a few dealers who, having put their order in many months ago are able to provide Damascus blades. With the push to Magnacut, the number of options will likely subside. I’ve avoided purchasing 31s in lieu of 21s simply because of the variations available.

I would never begrudge anyone for their choices, and I don't own any 31's ... yet; but while I find the Inkosi to be nearly perfect, I do still love the "clack" the 21 makes when opening. No doubt though the current CRK configurations with the ceramic ball do tend to open a little smoother.

I actually have debated removing the O rings from my Umnumzaan for just this reason, it is too quiet 😂 .

I’d grab the 21 while you can. The 31s are going to be around for awhile

Yeah, get the 21

Thank you all for your inputs. Today I visited the gun store to check this small Sebenza 21 again and was surprised that it was made in Feb 2013 and comes with old style rectangular box with some stickers of awards. The towel and set of paperworks are there, only wrench is missing. The knife itself has some glue marks from the scotch tape but otherwise it flawless. I've reserved it until Friday. Once I get it into my hands I'll share the pictures.

The 21 does have a signature clack that the 31 (although it still sounds cool) does not produce. I freaking love my Inkosis and my Umnumzaan as well. This is a random question but are you a hunter? I brought the Zaan with me in my deer stand. I'm probably going to use a Sebenza, Inkosi, or my Zaan this year to process my meat. The reason I ask is because is makes a perfect deedstand knife if you can't help but mess with a knife when bored. It's satisfying yet rainbow 6 silent. 20221113_101945.jpg

I would personally regret passing up an opportunity like that.

Edit: I just saw your newest post. Well done!

Just received my large Inkosi insingo carbon fiber (Knife Art exclusive) yesterday. I bought it here on the exchange from another member. Man what an awesome knife. I am pretty surprised at how much weight the carbon fiber show side saves verses the stock titanium. It feels a little different in hand due to it being lighter and having the carbon fiber show side. Excellent knife though. CRK did an excellent job on the carbon fiber as well.

Yes they do for sure. S45VN steel to boot. No complaints here. I had been looking at them for years, but was on the fence. I wasn't sure if I would like the carbon fiber. I am glad that I finally decided to go for it though.

One of my favorite knives! That exact one lives in my pocket more than any other. Well, minus the lanyard. It lives in the box. Idk why but the Sabenzas all feel like they need a lanyard but none of my Inkosis are carried with one.

So here it is, the new old Small Sebenza 21. It's interesting to compare 21 and 31: 21 has more aggressive jimping, shorter blade, bigger thumb stud and way smoother opening (my new 31 is too stiff from the box). I haven't decide yet which one will be in use.

What year is that 21 from?

I have one from 08 and it doesn't have jumping nor a thumb stud or clip like that one... Also didnt they start Idaho made in late 08/early 09?

Edit:
That 'choil' is also really weird... Along with the missing chamfer on the tooling hole..

Edit 2: its fugazzi as fk.

I'm going to be that one dick head... And go out on a limb... Ita a counterfeit.

If any of the experts jump on here and say I'm wrong, please do.
It's really interesting observation - the choil looks wrong, I agree.
UPD. Yes, it's definitely a fake. I'm so devastated because I bought it in very famous local gun store for the full price and couldn't imagine this kind of fraud.
