It’s nice to have a thread to post ramdom musings.
My son used my small regular today and remarked “dang that’s smooth”
. There is something about the old school sebenzas that’s just different.
After 10 days of use and 9,432 cycles, here are my experiences:
It came exceptionally sharp. I don’t think it’s the factory edge, definitely looks stropped to me, but I’m not sure how they sharpened in 1998
. It’s sharper than my other knives. BG42 takes a keen edge for sure.
After the first few days the lock stick was horrendous. I thought I might have to send it in. I’m not talking about a little unlocking resistance, at times it required two hands to unlock. I tried all tricks, nothing worked. I just kept carrying it and fidgeting with it. Then the lock stick just went away. Not suddenly, it just got progressively better and now there is no stick at all. Smooth unlocking like my 21. I suppose the lock face broke in? I don’t know but it adds to the enjoyment for sure.
The blue on the thumb stud is starting to show the typical wear. I have had silver hardware before so it’s my first experience. I like it.
The sand blast is so nice. The newer sand blast is coarser, which I like, but the older sandblast is like velvet that is smooth and grippy at the same time. It feels amazing.
Today was the knife’s hardest use. I cut quite a few sprinkler nipples, opened bags of soil, plastic tubing etc. Obviously the knife performed well but as I sit here in the couch after a long day I’m surprised to see there’s no need to touch it up. Feels just as sharp as it did this morning with no visible changes to the edge either. That’s pretty sweet! I admit I was careful, I’m not quite to the point of using it with reckless abandon.
I hope everyone had a great weekend. Sadly tomorrow is my last day carrying my knife for a while. I have to travel for work.
