The Knife Life (Minor Topics and Random Stuff Thread)

Here's my thin gentlemans folder.

My new gentleman's folder did something not so gentle to my thumb:

(This photo was taken the day after, just before I got round to washing the knife.)

I am so freaking busy I can't think straight. Between crunching a deadline for my company, starting another small business, and 2 more ZT801 jobs, and another ano job pending for a BF member, I'm slammed.

Here's the newest ZT801 in progress. I tried to talk the client out of going the "aged" route with pitting but he really digs that look so, next up, I'm starting the pitting and aging process. Here it is clean, below.

Took some pics of my meager folder collection. Significantly downsized from 6 months ago when I had 20+:

Done.

Wow that looks awesome, I'm not a fan of pitting, but that bronze coloring is amazing!

I like it sometimes, and not other times. I tried to get the owner to go with the full on clean look but, he really wanted the distressed finish I did on the last one. If you scroll up a few posts you can see what it looked like before the "aging". Thanks man, glad you like it though. Hurry up and get your rig in order!!!

Alright, so this isn't knife related, but I dont feel like making a yahoo question or going to urgent care or anything like that, so if there are any bf members in the medical community, I could use some advice...

I woke up this morning and when I pushed on my ear, I must have mushed a bit of wax into the inner part of the ear because I could definitely notice a slight change in the sharpness of my hearing on that side. So I tried using a q tip to dig the stuff out, but it didn't work very well, so I carefully went in a little further and twisted the q tip so that it would pick up some of the crap that was in there. I worked, but it also kind pushed some of the stuff further in..... But let me be clear, I HIGHLY DOUBT that it damaged anything.
So anyway, just about an hour ago I went to try using peroxide to clear it out. I had someone pour a few drops into the ear while I was tilting it so that gravity would help it go further in, and I left it like that for about a minute. I could actually feel it dissolving the stuff in there, so I thought it was working. But then I tilted my head back the other way to let it drain out, and the first thing i noticed was that nothing came back out..... I figured that that wasnt a great sign, but that it would just trickle back out over time like water does after swimming. So I went into the shower, let the water run into my ear for a while to wash out the peroxide, and then laid down on my side for a good ten minutes to let everything drain out. Not much did, and the ear is still a little less sensitive to sound than the other one. I noticed that the peroxide and hot water softened the gunk up and made it sticky inside the ear so that when I would touch it in a certain way, it would stick to itself and close over the ear canal. It was starting to freak me out, because I could maybe hear 10% of what I normally could out of that ear.
I figured that I needed to dry it back out again, So I tried this stuff that is supposed to dry up the water in your ear after you go swimming (it's mostly alcohol according to the bottle), and it burned quite a bit going in, but seems to have worked a little. The hearing in that ear is still a bit worse than the other one, but at least it seems to have dried out the wax to the point where it isn't as gummy and closing over my ear canal like it was after the peroxide.

I'll probably go to the doctor on Monday if it doesn't get better, but If there are any medical personnel forumites out there that could offer any help or suggestions as to what the problem is, or how to fix it, that would be much appreciated. Thanks:)

And don't tell me to use a jarbenza:rolleyes:

I would recommend doing what you did for the peroxide, but with saltwater, and leave it in there for a good 5 min, then go to the shower

I've left it alone for a while and it seems to be getting better. I think I just over reacted and all of my messing with it just made it irritated. I'll leave it till Monday, and if i feel like it's still not 100% I'll go to the doctor.

Anyway, I'll stop derailing my own thread now:)

Back to knife stuff:thumbup:

I took my chapparal to the sharpmaker and strop just now, and it came out rediculously sharp. I've made an effort to start carrying the chap more, and I'm loving the XHP so far. It's also SUPER thin, so it cuts better than most of my other knives. Really fun comparing it to the 0801 slicing apples......:D Let's just say with the 0801 I felt like I was using a splitting wedge :p

Well glad to hear it's getting better!
I love the sharp maker results on Spyderco knives, for me it always works better with that blade shape. Also, at work I have been using the Delica instead of my 940 and I must say that I am absolutely in love. If I could get one with titanium scales but that blade shape...

Yup the delicas pretty great. Not really a looker though....

This is a genius thread.

Thank ya sir

Sounds like Ebola to me.

Now on to the knife stuff. I just can't seem to set down my Hogue ex01 for days once I pick it up. The problem is I can't stand this big bulky tactical thing, but its just so freaking smooth. I mean the only knives I own that are smoother are a seb 21 and pm2. That sais a lot since they're both on bushings, and this knife doesn't even have washers. Its just a blade slaped between 2 partial aluminum liners.

EDIT- I forgot about these god awful "g mascus" scales. I figured why not try something different for once? Should've at least got aluminum.
I guess you can't when 'em all.

Get the kit that comes with a rubber bulb. You let the peroxide marinate then squirt warm water into your ear. A half and half mix of vinegar and rubbing alcohol helps dry the ear canal afterward. I had a hideous ear infection and chunks of crap came out.
