The Knife Life (Minor Topics and Random Stuff Thread)

THANK YOU!!! There was recently a thread where someone asked how to sterilize a knife in the field, and when someone suggested a quick wave through the fire a bunch of people said that might hurt the ht. My response was your quote about exactly.

No problemo!

I think on that same thread, my suggestion was "pour bourbon on it and wipe it on your pants" or something to that effect.

Hey, mind shooting that GEC info my way too hombre?

I appreciate the fact that everyone politely pointed out that you can't ruin the heat treat of a knife by cutting things fast but in all honesty, I was making the "HONKA HONKA" clown sound when I saw how far the discussion on the topic went! It boggles my mind that someone would make a claim THAT stupid.

Meast85, nothing personal against you at all man! You obviously knew what that nar nar was saying is ridiculous. My point is that, it's brain melting that someone out there believed their own nonsense. If I were you, I'd tell homeboy he's had his head "work hardened".

I agree, 100%. It's been a few months since I read that, but I just couldn't couldn't understand how that could possibly happen. I am going to look for that thread. If I find it I will post a link?

Not at all. If it's on this forum, you can post a link to it. If it's on a different forum, it my be frowned upon. I don't rightly know. Where did you see the post? If it was on BF, it's fair game.

Well, I haven't had much time to work on the other knives yet, but this little guy is just about done. I think it came out looking pretty great considering how old of a knife it is:thumbup:

Love the look of the polished brass and wood. I took these pics right before putting on a coat of Danish oil, so the wood is now actually a little better looking than the pics show.

Of course while Ive had it I've done some testing, and I'm truly AMAZED at how well it cuts. The blade is so thin and the grind and geometry are so nice that it just burns through material like I've never seen before. Oh and the sharpness doesn't hurt either :p I got it hair popping sharp in just a few minutes on the stones, sharpmaker, and strop.

The more work I put into it, the more I'm starting to like this thing. Oh great.... Traditionals......Thats just what my addiction needed right now:rolleyes::D

Nice job! Welcome to the dark side.....

Hehe, dark side indeed.....

IDK, I might even see if he's willing to sell me this one, as I could use a nice traditional in my collection. I don't think that I'll be as into them as moderns, but one or two wouldn't be a bad thing;)

Well, this was a delayed double post... Never seen that happen before.

Anyhow, I say go for it. I was into "traditionals" forever back in the day. When I first started getting into knives, that's all there was. And that's all we needed. Back then, the most tactical and "sinister" knife you could get was a Buck 110!

It's a whole different world. Learn all about "walk and talk", "snap", "proud", "wobble" (instead of blade play), and be prepared to call all handle materials "covers" instead of scales.

I started getting back into traditionals with a Case Sodbuster. It cost me all of $25, and it hasn't left my pocket since I bought it.

Or you could just buy the knife, and carry it and enjoy it?

It was easy for me to get back into it because I knew the full lexicon when I was a kid.

It is different, but in the end, they're all knives. I guess it ain't all that much different.

Alright, it's opinion time....

I have a big knife (the sp48), but it's a big CHOPPER. I feel like my collection could use a big "fighter" type knife. I'm not planning on doing any fighting, but i think it would be good to have one anyway (for the cool factor mostly:p)

Since it won't see much action, I figure it doesn't have to be a busse or anything like that. I went back to see some more ontarios because theyre all pretty cheap, but at the same time well built. At first, I liked the SP1, but then those damn related videos on YouTube led me to the SP6 which I think I like even better.....

But I cant decide...... Does anyone have either and would like to recommend one? I know it's mostly personal preferences at this point, but still. I think your opinions would help tip me one way or another :)
