The Knife Life (Minor Topics and Random Stuff Thread)

Congratulations hokie_fan! You won one heck of a knife! And Krissig - one hell of a generous and heartfelt giveaway.

I tell you, the generosity and kindness of all of my fellow members of bladeforums never ceases to amaze me.

This is one very special place.

It is indeed:thumbup:

Camping trip went awry, took a big chunk out of my finger, super glue was dried up brand new so unusable, super cold night. Had fun nonetheless but my Mora really screwed me up!

Congrats hokie, you lucky s.o.b., and thanks krissig for the genorous giveaway. I was already planning how I was going to trick out the 566 once I won it but what do you do.
So I've got this mini grip thats seen at most 2 weeks of use. It just sits in my knife box for months at a time. Its a decent knife, but I didn't realise how much I disliked small blades until I got it. So I'm going to quit hoarding it and pass it along to someone who might use more than twice a year.
No rules on who can enter. I'll end it friday.
Full disclosure: there is some blade play. I'm just to lazy to send it in to benchmade. So if it bothers you that much I'm sure their waranty department would fix it right up. (I mean Its the least you could do for a free knife:D)

Can I get in on this one? I have been wanting to compare a mini grip to my delica! I got the delica cheap off a friend at work and have been wondering if the grip would have been a better choice. Thanks for the chance!

Glad to hear you are ok. What were you doing when you got diced?

Being extremely careless. I had put away my buddies hatchet after chopping some fallen tree limbs, and was using my Mora to push through the last few relatively thin twiggy branches to dry out by the fire. Turned away for a second to say something to him, turned back and found my hand in the blade's path just long enough to see it fly into my hand. Real clean so it didn't hurt till later, feels awful now but my finger works fine and has feeling everywhere. When you don't get cut for a long time you become wreckless and arrogant, I think.

Should've been wearing gloves too. Hah, funny, some lessons need relearning I guess. Thank you, I'm grateful that although it's pretty bad...it's not worse!

That really sucks man.

So would you say that your mora was too sharp???:D

Good to hear you will be ok. Too true that you get complacent if you don't have a slip-up for a long time, I have the scars on my fingers to prove it too! I still have a scar on my thumb from when I was about 8, put an xacto knife through it while trying to cut a model plane out of the frame. I actually did it to both thumbs, slow learner I gues, lol. One saying that has stuck with me is one my friend told me. When he was in Iraq there was a sign as they left the FOB to go on patrol that said "Complacency Kills" it might not kill us, but an extreme example that reminds me to not get complacent. I haven't cut myself in a pretty long time now!

No, sir. I'd say I was too dull in this case lol.

Appreciated. Yep just another scar hopefully. Feels alright, just dull throbbing. I agree with your friend. Doesn't apply to me much, but wise words nonetheless.

Well I finaly got to take a pre christmas sneak peek at the reate hills. Its pretty sweet. Blade length and overall length are about identical to the large seb 21 which I think is my ideal size. Small enough that it doesn't take over my pocket yet big enough to fill out my hand. Now getting me to put it back in the box might be a bit of a chore.

Hey, I'll take a deep clean cut from a sharp knife over a shallow messy cut from a dull knife any day. Sucks that it happened, but its just a part of the passion. Hands without scars are like knives without scratches, if your hands are pristine than you're obviously not using them enough haha.

Alright, so I'm thinking the mini grip needs one more thing to finish it off..... Who knows a guy that could make me some blue anodized Ti barrel spacers? :D

Or even better, red anodized aluminum ones? (Since Ti can't be anodized red)

Crap. Never mind....

I was gonna say I know just the man for the job, but you said "make", not "anodize".

Haha, if I just needed anodizing, I already know who I could go to!

But does anyone on BF make them? I can't seem to find anyone....

Anybody else watch Cutlery Corner? I always get a kick out of that show.

I used to fall asleep watching them push knives late at night, drunk enough anyway haha. I never buy anything but I honestly have kind of always wanted to, just to know. Hope you've had a good weekend man.

Krissig12 and AntDog- Good lookin' out guys! I appreciate the thought greatly.

SadSappySucker- Lol, yeah. I never really let anything get too dull, I've almost forgotten what a dull cut feels like. I'm alright with not remembering or finding out anytime soon.

The weekend was good, brother. I'm not sure what time it is where you're at, but I'll shoot you a text in a while. Hope your finger's doing better!

I figured I'd bump the thread since it was starting to get burried. The mini grip gaw is still open(see post 662). 4 more days.
Is it wrong that I keep playing with my new knife/ christmas present when no one is looking? They've yet to wrap it, so when the coast is clear I sneak into the living room and get a few flips in. It feels wrong yet oh so right.
