The Knife of 2014

That is a great one, Scott! I never even knew they were released until it was too late,,,,AGAIN!

What a great thread! I was on the road over the New Year's holiday, and I missed this conversation. But I have enjoyed catching up!

2014 saw the end of my search for the 3rd Cut Stag Charlow:

And I was fortunate to acquire the Anniversary Barlow as well.

But my knife of the year came from the beginning of 2014, and has been in my pocket ever since it arrived. The reasons are eloquently put in the OP. This may be the Knife of 2015 as well!

And that brings us 'round to where this thread started!

Three great knives Scott, beautiful pics (as usual), and some nice symmetry there my friend

Yet another wonderful thread that I entirely missed while I was traveling for the holidays! (Sorry to spoil the first post last post symmetry you had going on here. :()

Starting last January, my interest in pocket knives was rekindled by a beat-up old Imperial that my wife got from her father, discovered in some box, and gave me to try to rescue. I suppose for being the "spark" that set off a very interesting new hobby for me, I could call that knife my Knife of 2014.

But the knife I carried the most for 2014 was a Vic Classic. I bought it and a Tinker as a package deal from a big home improvement retailer in March or April. The Classic went in my pocket the day it arrived and hasn't been out of my pocket (except for legal reasons) ever since. The Tinker also hit my pocket immediately and stayed there until October, when a Vic Electrician gregc gifted me took the Tinker's place. So the Classic and a "full-size" SAK of some kind probably deserve Knife of 2014 honors from a most-carried perspective.

One other knife that deserves honorable mention is a Case peanut I won from Cory Hess in the first GAW I was eligible to enter at BF in August. That's been in my pocket every day since September 2, but being a "calendar latecomer", can't really qualify as Knife of the Entire Year.

So I may not have a clear winner in my mind for my own Knife of 2014, but IMHO RaptureRaptor's story behind his knife of the year post is the best knife story of 2014!!

My knife of the year has been not the most expensive or good looking of my collection, nor indeed my favourite knife of my collection, but for it's great utility and massive sentimental value I have to go with a present from a new old friend.

It's even in my pocket right now.

Thanks, Jack! And thanks for starting this very entertaining thread to wrap up 2014.:thumbup:

Sorry I'm so late to this party. I had a bad phone camera, had to learn Photobucket, was shoveling snow off my roof, mumble mumble mumble....:D

My most carried knife of 2014 was this GEC #15. What's not to love?: Antique Yellow, long-pull clip, single blade, bare head, sharp as the dickens, pinchable blade, no shield. Second most carried was a #55 Dogleg jack, also a single blade, but flavored Wharncliffe.

For this past year, my traditional of note that made me happier than any other has been my 2013 Bladeforums Traditional GEC Congress. It made it into my pocket more than any other knife, and was a joy to just take out and look at. I've had to cut several of my usual EDC knives, including most of my modern large folders, out of my rotation, as they have imposed stricter limitations at work.

This little guy meets the spirit of the rules, if not the letter, enough so that I feel confident that it will not get me in trouble. The main blade being just shy of 3" is plenty of blade to get the job done, and the secondary blade is perfect for any task performed in front of others.
