The Last Blade You'd Ever See Me Carry Is A.....

Last blade you can see me carry is: Anykind of automatic knife or switch blade.

Me either. I had my wife click a round timerand deployed a switchie several times, then a BM 940 and it was no contest. The Benchmade thumbstud axis lock opened way faster - mine didn't have pocket clips so no fumbling around in pocket, no figuring out where the button is, and that's with the switchblades "unlocked!"

I do like to snap them though. My Kershaw Random Leek, SS framelock is much faster than any automatic as is my new ZT 0301 (with a bit of wrist) but not enough to harm anything. "Out the side" switchies were used anyway, I don't own any OTF's.

A switchblade was something I really wanted when I was younger. When I was finally able to get one I no longer desired it.

I love my 301, too. And not only is it surprisingly fast opening, when that thing loudly "thunks" open, it sounds like a hatchet chopping wood. Love that sound. :D

Ditto. I thought they were the coolest things in the world (even moreso than guns) back in high school, except for maybe girls and fast cars, but by the time I was in college I just didn't care. Then it became the "big honkin' survival knife" or 12" bladed bowie that was the ultimate in cool. Still admit I like the bowies (although w/smaller blades--if I want a knife w/a 12" blade, I'll prob. be wanting to abuse it, so I just buy inexpensive machetes), but the urge to buy an OTF pig sticker never came back.

No real reason why; I mean, it's not like I grew up or anything. ;)

Knives I won't carry ( some due to asthetics alone).. this doesn't mean I wouldn't own or collect some of these, I just wouldn't carry them.

1. Spyderco serrated folders- I know they are good knives, but to me they are like Movado watches: The real thing is a decent product, but there are so many knockoffs, even a real one looks like a cheap fake.

2. Switchblades- Cool when I was a kid, and I do own several, but they live in a drawer and are never used or carried.

3. Folders with multiple blades- folders do not need to try to be more than one knife/tool.

4. Hollow Handle knives- Just too tacticool for my tastes.

5. Any folder costing over $150- I use my knives, and a folder costing $300 will not perform better than a well made $150 knife. Extra cost is purely compensation for the knifemakers/name/art/etc...and while the price may be worth it to a collector, expense doesn't mean performance.

6. Plastic scales/handles- I don't like 'em. I'll rip them off and add wood or micarta. Plastic is cheap. If you go through the process of making a knife, plastic scales makes it look like you just got lazy at the end and said "F@#* it, add those cheap scales."

7.Serrated blades- IMHO a useless addition, hard to sharpen, hard to even cut rope with them.

Well this should knock off about 1/2 of your list. :)

Not a list of specific makes/models, but the knives I'm most unlikely to carry are...

... switchblades and balisongs, because they are illegal where I live.

... large, bulky, heavy knives, because I don't need them for my regular EDC use, and they are just cumbersome/uncomfortable to carry. RAT-1 or Endura are about as large as I'll EDC.

... expensive knives, because I don't have the money (yet) to justify that much expense on a knife when there are many comparable-performing and far less expensive alternatives. All my knives are beaters (although, admittedly, some more so than others), and if I lost or broke a $100+ pocket knife, I'd be pretty devastated.

Balisongs. The whole...flippy whirl around thingy has no appeal to me. Every time I see the flip open thingy, I think, wow Chuck Norris Delta Force Columbian drug lord parody.

Any folder that's over 4/5 of an inch thick, those bulkier ones just don't feel right in the pocket.

Tantos
Chisel Grinds
Opinels
Toothpicks
Stilettos
Karambits
Recurve folders
Swiss army knives with more than 4 tools
Gerber multi-tools ( or cheapo variants)
Any Large mutli-tools with too many tools ( too heavy for me)
Extra-large folders
Sebenzas
Art/display knives totally out of the question. Users only.
No particular hate towards any manufacturer here. Only certain knives.

I carry i wide array of knives but one knife you will never see me carry is anything by mantis.

I guess the last thing youd ever see me carry is a charming china cheapie of some sort. i just appreciate all knives and its a passion. price isnt an indicator of a knives quality i have interesting little forged knives that i got from a local renfair that serve admirabley when i need a knife im willing to really go to town on. i dont understand the hatred of high value knives. we are on a forum dedicated to high end knives, of course people here are going to have some nice and expensive knives. i drive a cheap toyota and live in a tiny apartment. the things i splurge on are knives, guns survival supplies and exercise because thats what i value. i guess its to each their own

I like and own ALL types of knives from multiple blade slip joint case knives all the way to tiger striped striders.

I love sd based knives, as well as shanks and shivs and billy clubs, if it can kill injure or maim i definatley want one :)

i can even get behind dark ops in a so bad they are good way (like how campy some horror movies are). I mean i almost bought one just to go out and beat on it till it broke. The advertising is rediculous but thats just life, id rather deal with the tacticool nerd market than the sex sells market. I can understand wanting to have a "covert deanimator" alot more than i can understand wanting to have a mac laptop or a starbucks latte. At least they are marketing to the last vestiges of manliness ;)

As for chris reeves knives, i love them. I own 4 chris reeves now and they are all safe queens. im proud of this and i know some day my collection between reeves busse and custom will be worth alot of money. I keep intending to get a user sebbie but theres always something new i want :) i remember when i was a kid going into a store and thinking that chris reeves where stupid and only being interested in the butterfly knives and cold steel fixed blades. now that im an adult i cant help but apreciate chris reeve knives more and more, that goes ditto for william henry another knife making powerhouse i admire.

As for pink knives, im an ex soldier who works as a bouncer while they go to school, i dont think im a push over, the color pink does not scare me and i own a pink izula, got one the second they became available because i think they look nice and not threatening. Now those monochromatic kershaws those are another story :barf:
