The Legend of Waynorth - Does he really exist?

I am a relative new-comer to the game of TC Barlows and have missed the last few releases due to not understanding the system. I think I got it down now and am really looking forward to the next one (hopefully a long-pull spear single blade). There is something special about a TC Barlow, but something more special about the guy behind it. When I see a post on here that Charlie has sent someone a package: the post is usually about Charlie sending them a package, and at the end it talks about what was in the package...

As for the knives themselves: It is common now for people here to judge any other traditional knife on how long it bumps out (or shares) pocket time with their TC Barlow...

I wonder how long they would last if I posted them all on the Exchange, at once!!?? Not long - I expect - but - not to worry- I would not keep a lookin'.

The Legend of Waynorth - Does he really exist?

I must admit that Charlie does bear a passing resemblance to certain other legendary creatures such as the Abominable Snowman.

That is really funny Frank.:D

I would say if one were REALLY S. Claus - you might be able to transform into anything you wanted - anytime you wanted!

Charlie is good people. Period. End of story. His generosity is legendary, as is his friendship and ability to design highly desirable, collectable goodies based on the best traditional principles. It was a pleasure to meet him at the Rendezvous, talks knives, and purchase a Charlow directly from the maestro himself.

Primble, of late your photos are looking a tad congested. Personally I'd get rid of the coins and buy more Charlows. Stockpiling more is the only way to be sure. ;):D

Your composition is amazing--as is your attention to detail. I think I get more pleasure just looking at your photos than I do enjoying my own humble collection.

Rob - thank you for the kind words and the humor - I would like to make the Rendezvous - hopefully next year I will.

If I keep buying Charlows at my current rate, the coin congestion will take care of itself!! :D

I'm officially rolling on the floor. Funny stuff here.

Here is the 2 small boxes I received in the mail from Charlie last week. I cannot take good pics but this is the best for today. Thanks alot my friend.

Nothing wrong with those pictures at all. That is a very nice mail call Chisumr.:thumbup:;)

I wonder - do many folks in Japan buy these traditional knives from America??:)

I think that the last picture just told me to go to bed and quit wishing.! Lot of goodness going on around this Forum and I
do believe Santa has really been on here.! Yipes.!!!!

Great knives, and Great sentiments,
I used to collect fixed blades - didnt know a thing about Pocket knives - still dont really as I get more into it I realise just how little I know - but I bought a Maher and Grosh Slippie one day - it was a particularly nice one, put it up in Bernards forum, well Charlie asked me to put it up in the Traditionals - I very rarely went in there, but ...its been all down hill from there!!
I just joined the queue at that moment without realising it that I then owed Charlie a lot - and now I owe him x's that by a great number.

I love this story.

Charlie is a great guy and I loved meeting him. I don't think he is the real Santa, though. I can understand how you might think so. :)

Thank you for the complement Primble. Your collection and pics are top notch. I am close to you but don't advertise as you can read below why.

I am not the norm here in Okinawa/Japan. Gaijin as we are called (foreigner). I belong to a large expat community that feeds the military complex machine that exists here on Okinawa. I have only met a couple of guys who are avid
knife collectors but am sure there is more. The knife laws in Japan make it so the local Japanese are almost prohibitive from buying/owning knives here. It either has to be registered or licensed. As an American I exist under a law called the SOFA. Staus of Forces Agreement. We are tax exempt from importing and exporting because we have our own mail center that is run by the USMC. Japanese customs oversee it but it is not illegal to own a knife so we get around it. Military needs large knives for war purposes.
Mind you off base the rules are governed by the Japanese government and no blade longer than around 3 inches or longer is authorized to carry on your person even though you see it. I don't carry anything over that in my pocket. My collection stays at home or is moved around very discretely. I have seen 2 friends almost go to prison for having large knives on their belt and stopped by the Japanese police for a traffic infraction. Normally they don't bother us but when you are stopped for DUI or speeding or a major traffic infraction be prepared to be boarded as the Navy says. My nephew works for the Japanese customs so I even tread lightly. People that violate the Japanese laws time and time again usually end up being told/asked to leave the island...for good.

My wife and I own a beautiful home overlooking the ocean so I have no intention of leaving....old and wiser as my deceased father would say. To me it is as beautiful as Oahu in Hawaii but we have a large reef around the island that spoils shore fishing. Boats are required and we have an adbundant supply of Marlin, Tuna and Mahi Mahi here. It is discretely called Japan's Hawaii. Large resorts feed the tourists that swarm here in the summer.

Wolf-man-12....your post cracked me up......

Charlie does know how to make the child in all of us be thrilled ..... just like Christmas morning under the tree. Thanks again for my rambling and post those pics everyone.

It is my firm belief that it is people such as these that make this forum such a marvelous place. Gentlemen you are truly inspirational.

I must deny my North Pole residency, however! Do you know what it costs to feed eight reindeer ?
:D

How would you know if you had never tried?:eek::eek::eek: ;)

Just in case you missed the above "slip of the tongue" Derrick. ;):)

Sounds like an old west saying "Get out of town by sundown":D

and I see that you might be on the Santa band wagon too. :D
