The Les George Knives Thread

Thanks!

norcalAF norcalAF you did say a "new" Talos...have there been multiple versions/generations?
Yes, he is on the second iteration of the Talos to my knowledge. The first gen is great, and slightly larger than the current Gen. Out of my first and second gens, the second gen is slightly more flickable, but you can't go wrong with either. The first gen is the tan handlePXL_20241029_150314580.jpgPXL_20240811_183946576.jpgPXL_20240924_022316219.jpgPXL_20240811_180138571.jpg

Well, after passing a Talos offered to me here with an off-center blade, I got two different offers to trade for a button lock VECP that I rejected because I really prefer frame locks to button locks. I then missed a morph milled Talos that sold yesterday afternoon and told myself I needed to watch the listings more vigilantly, and within an hour had somehow missed a DLC blade frame lock VECP as well. In commenting on that post to let the new owner know I'd be interested in buying if they decided to put it back on the market, the original seller messaged me and let me know that Lantac Knives had PJ Talos in stock so I jumped on it and bought one. They are still showing in stock if anyone else is looking but they only had a few at the time of my purchase last night. I was also able to link up that seller with one of the guys getting rid of a button lock VECP and they worked out a deal, so new LGs all around!

My Talos doesn't have an ETA yet but I'm very excited to get my first Les George in hand and see what you guys are raving about.

Happy to hear it! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts. And nice work hooking up that trade. That’s one of the best parts of the LG community! Everyone helps each other find what they’re looking for.

I notice most of you guys stick with a stock-style clip rather than deep carry. At a glance I have to assume this is because of the way the screw heads would stick up and catch on the pocket under a deep carry clip of this style...I hate when they aren't or can't be recessed to avoid that.

Without sorting through 119 pages of pics, has anyone sent off a PJ Talos or VECP for milling or lasering to add some texture? Being a fan of raw, but not necessarily smooth titanium, I've considered having something done with my Talos if I fall in love with the other aspects of it. Jared at Valley Bladeworks does probably the nicest rock texture I've ever seen, and he and plenty of other modders will laser golf putter or dragon scale or any number of patterns that also add some grip.

Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, but I'd love to see any modified knives you guys can share!

Any deep carry clips for the typical 3 hole pattern should work. I can’t help ya with modded textured ti but they’re a few guys here that may be able to. I on the other hand have converted some vecps and talos’ to g10 for the purpose of grip and I really like the weight savings as well.

The top 2 are stock from Les and the bottom two are the v1 and v2 talos. You can see the v1 is considerably bigger with a 3.75” blade.

Are you making the scales yourself?

Curious if you have any issues with this. I ran a damascus monster disc from Pete on my MK3 for a while. On some of my shorts, the disc was snagging and the knife would basically completely pull open on the draw. I tried sanding down the edges because pete's disc is both larger and more abrasive than the stock but still happened. I just returned the disc to stock

This may be a quick fix for ya. I’ve gotten used to holding the blades closed on all my knives with my middle finger as I pull them out of my pocket from years of carrying Emersons with the wave.

thanks. to me the benefit didn't outweigh the risk. I loved the way the damascus disc looked but to be honest I like the texture and the performance of the stock MK3 disc more. $50 lesson. If anyone wants a damascus monster thumb disc -- hit me up.

Wait, you carry your LGs?! 😜

Happy Friday Folks 🤙

Wanted to share my scores from last week’s Cancon/Blade Tactical show w/ y’all. Was a fun, small show, and Les brought some serious heat.

I picked up 1 of the 7 DLC Topo VECPs as well as the 1/1 DLC Topo Talos V2. Really enjoying these two. The laser work is other worldly. Les crushed it!

Kudos to Les’ new (I guess he’s not that new at this point 😆) DLC guy - the DLC blades turned out killer 🤘 Hopefully he held back some DLC stuff for a website drop!

Hope everyone has an excellent weekend 🍻

I've had multiple milled and lasered versions. Here are a few:

Both of these were done by Ray of Cap City Creations. The top is manually milled and the bottom was hand barked. He does incredible work, but it's very difficult to get a book spot since you have to win a lottery he only holds a few times per year.

The VECP is shed official, but the ESV was lasered by Way of Knife. They did an excellent job on it. It was definitely grippy and they were able to leave the original stonewash finish on the non-lasered areas intact.

This ESV was also done by Way of Knife in their sonar pattern. I had this one done show side only to save my pocket from getting shredded. It is VERY grippy. Again, they were able to leave the stonewash intact.
