The Les George Knives Thread

I’m early out of the gate for Fixed Blade Friday. Carrying around the house counts, right?

The latest edition to my Les George collection; an Elishewitz / George Association spin on the Fairbairn-Sykes dagger. I wasn’t sure how I would like this one given I tend for a heavier handle material. Once in hand, I was blown away. The overall light weight and balance is spot on and the micarta handle feels great. Allen did an amazing job with the finishing and the hollow-ground dagger is my absolute favorite. Looks like Les has a couple variants of this with him at Blade Texas.
I don't know what kind of voodoo Les and Allen did to that blade, but I love it. That finish is perfect with micarta.

Not currently recovering...Still full blown McNeesaholic!
I had a Mac 2, and the action was great, unfortunately the lockbar cutout was very sharp and would not allow the knife clip to release the knife from my pocket without considerable coercion. Otherwise it was a great knife with excellent blade to handle ratio. I also had to move on my Automac as I couldn't carry it anyway and if I'm gonna have some safe queen auto's, they are gonna say LG on the side!

Day 12: Fixed Blade Friday

This Magnate is my only Les George fixed blade so far. I figure I don't need yet another rabbit hole to go down, although I'm sure I'll eventually cave and grab a trench knife and one of the many incredible daggers Les does. For now, I'm really digging this one. Having a giant hunk of Magnacut at my side makes me feel prepared for whatever tasks I'd happen to run into. I even used it to carve the family turkey this year! My only complaint about the knife is that I didn't love the Kydex sheath it came with so I picked up a JRE Model Q leather sheath, which has been a perfect fit and vastly improved my carry experience.

I just picked up a Magnate off the exchange, could you PM me a link for that sheath? The only complaint I've read about with these is the stock sheath.

Photo from a FB member who offered a proxy for a talos proto from blade Texas . This is the one I grabbed . Was the only plane Jane in the group . Wanted a sweep or morph but didn’t want to pass up the opp to try a Talos and a LG framelock . Proto too .

Day 12!

Brand new mk3 from bladeshow! No Talos but happy with the trip overall. Les got bum rushed. Said it was the first time ever. Talos and button locks were gone with the early birds. We were fourth in line for general admission. Only maybe 5 mk3’s were left to choose from. I got this one and my buddy got a morph. By the time we paid and rolled out from the table, he was completely out of folders. Great show for Les!

(Snip) Oherwise it was a great knife with excellent blade to handle ratio.
You remember when VW got in trouble for programming their cars to detect when they're being tested for emissions and to run differently? I'm pretty sure Jon did that with the Mac2 - whenever it gets close to a ruler the blade measures 3.5", but when you fold it back into the handle it shortens up somehow. There's no other way to explain that ratio.

I'm glad he's finally getting the widespread recognition from the knife community that he deserves. I buy most of my knives on the exchange here or other secondary markets, and never understood why his stuff was so undervalued for so long.

I guess the flip side is that the great deals are becoming harder to find with all the demand for his stuff!

Yea, I think the button lock has really gotten him noticed. I bought a button lock from him in Atlanta and his table was full and I was probably around hundred deep for general admission.

I know we've both been championing Les every chance we get like a couple of missionaries going to door-to-door. The downside is that it's a lot harder to get his pieces now. The positive part is that we're supporting an incredible maker who deserves the attention and ultimately I believe that's the right thing to do.
