thanks john. this was a lot of fun. and, while not perfect, i am pretty pleased with how it turned out. i fear i'm hooked. this certainly will not be the last "naked" knife i purchase from you.

Yum! That steak looks good!

That does it - I am fixing my grill in the morning.

I can't believe this thread slipped off the page. I guess others like myself have been dragging their feet on these knives.

Anyway, I finally finished mine. No sheath yet, but I'll get that done sometime soon.

I posted a couple early pics, but I'll put them all together now.

This was a fun project to work on. I haven't done anything with fixed blades for some time. I guess in hindsight, I might have used a different spacer color, but I guess it doesn't look that bad. A big thanks to John for making these available for us to be creative on.

Now, let's see some more!

wow glenn. looks great! great job on the handle shape. what material is that? is that maroon micarta? or wood? i can't even tell.

P.S. i think the spacers look good.

Thanks for the comments. The material I used is Dark Red line micarta. I've had the piece for years, bought it from Jantz, and it's been sitting around waiting for the right project. It does kinda look like wood grain, I agree.

Glenn

it's like the nicest wood i've ever seen! :D seriously though...it really does look great. nice job. maaan...i really want to get another one of these.

Wow Glenn!!

That is gorgeous!! I really like the way the red linen micarta polished up - very nice job!!

Thanks for the pictures - that will be a joy to use.

looks good, everyone seems to have a lot less trouble getting the handle material flush with the knife, whatcha all using for that, belt sander? and glen when did you po9lich the handle with? I just use the linseed oil on wood but I think other might have better suggestions?

I'm actually trying to make handle for the bk16 right now before i try another lrk, :)

Here's a few of the tools I am using. I use a standard drill press with a setup as shown, the sanding drums, to work the handle material down to the tang...

Not shown, but I also have a couple of those cheap harbor freight 1 x 30 belt sanders, for general sanding and cleaning up lines.

For final finish polishing, this is my baby.

They're not cheap, but IMO, an absolute necessity in the knife workshop.

If you don't have the tools though Peter,a nice hard, flat surface,a lot of elbow grease & a lot of determination will suffice. ;)

Thats my ticket right now, :) I see it as a way to improve upon my lack of patience when it comes to projects :)

My tools:
sand paper
a dremel
workstation that can turn the dremel into a drill press :) (it actually works pretty well but th right sized bits can be hard to find)
old cutting board
glue
..hands?

:)

Must invest more in this area sometime, thanks glen, it helps to know what to aim for

You don't need all those tools that I have, it just makes life a little easier. You tend to appreciate your work more when it takes more elbow grease to get things done.

I know I am amazed to see what people can do with much less than I have.
