Wow. I'm certainly impressed.

received my new g10 liners. they are glued up now. not much to show via pics, but figured i'd hit this thread with an update. hope to be able to finish this baby up this week.

Hi Todd -

Looking good! thanks for the pic -

I had my light box out last night taking pictures, so I tried to get some of my LRK+ to show off the Amendoin wood -

forgive my ignorance....is a light box like a camera? either way....that knife sure looks good.

ok. here we go. so, i did another WIP knife yesterday. i have the bug. so, worked on the LRK+ when i got home from work today.

i learned a bit from yesterday to today. yesterday, i was outside for 3+ hours. today, i worked that down to 1+ hours. i also skipped some steps today.

i don't want to post the other WIP thread because i feel weird linking to another maker's thread. if you want to see what i am talking about, you can just go to my profile and see my recent history (i'm guessing). i only mention it because, for me, it was part of this process.

rather than comment on each pic, i'm just going to go through my process and then just post a mess of pics. and be forewarned....there are a bunch.

i knew right away that i wanted a slim handle on this knife. so, i actually went back to the band saw and cut the scales right in half on each side. i really wish i thought of this yesterday. i started with a 40-grit grinding disc (set into my drill press). i then moved it to the bench vice and hit it with files. this took up the majority of my time. it is tough to get the symmetry just right.

then, i just finished with 400 and 800-grit sandpaper. i already had the right shape with the files. so, i did the handle shoe-polish style and this helped contour the edges nicely.

then, i drank a beer. :D

i still need to properly finish the knife. it still has epoxy on the blade and just a bit on the butt and finger groove. but overall, i am pleased with it. feels great in the hand. and the KOA really has a nice grain. this really might be my new favorite knife.

ok, ok....on to the pics!

That turned out nice - I think it looks great with the black micarta pins - and the liners - nice job!

thanks andy. i agree. i know i'm biased, but the KOA and black really came together nicely. even with all the pics...it's really tough to show it off. i appreciate the kind words.

Looks real nice! One word of advice (don`t ask how I know this) dump the sandals when working with sharp objects!

TPVT...love everything about that build! The dark pins with the lighter wood, the spacer material. Came together nice.

(and it looks like you you still have all your toes!)

i'm back for more! working from home today and took a lunchbreak to try to cleanup my LRK+ a bit. it's tough to see in some pics above, but there was still a good amount of epoxy left on the spine, butt, etc. plus, the wood was a bit rough. and, i needed to polish up the blade a bit more. had epoxy on that too, and remember....this started as a HT finish.

i guess that was all a long-winded way of saying...."I was trying to make the steel shiny." :D

i hit it with the sandpaper today. i know, i know....less talking more pics. maybe these don't really look much different, but sorry...can't help myself.

hard at work. uh-oh. what sandles? nothing to see here.
