The Mistress

Thanks for the deserving comments. Here is another two pics compared to my 1/300, exact same handles.

Looks like the plunge on Cliff’s blade is significantly farther back, unless that’s from his regrinding it. Nice knives!

That is correct. Those are the two different styles of SHBM's. Large flat side ricasso and small flat side ricasso. All of the 1/300 are the large flat. Every short flat I have owned has been a much more massive knife than the ones with the large flat side.

Nice score!
I would also recommend the ozone generator. I don’t have personal experience with one. However, my wife used to work for a fire/flood restoration company that also did trauma scenes. For example, a person that lives alone dies, if they don’t work, and have no close family, friends, neighbors, etc, they may not be found for “2 weeks” or so:confused:. As you can imagine, it gets pretty ripe, so they use larger ozone units to get the smell out of the home.

Awesome knife Dennis and cool story. Didn't realize the history you have with Busse. Much respect. I can't imagine the mistress collection you have, I bet you have a lot of knives too :D

LOL. Good play on words. Yeah, at least my memory is better than Cliffs. He does not even remember me sending him a CS trailmaster and recon scout in the 90's. Those two knives were given to me by Lynn Thompson of CS because he was hoping I would sell him my mistress when I got it. I told him to call Jerry, because Jerry would sell a mistress to him, no problem.

Was that the old Recon Scout Tanto, with the grit-blasted blade? I have one of those.

I think the recon tanto was coated black and the trailmaster and recon scout were satin. But it's been over 20 years since that happened.

Damn, maybe I can get him to send me a blade or two and forget about the payment! Haha! Yeah, I've owned a trail master or two. It was my starter blade :). For a long time I was into the original SOG Tiger Shark. Then I saw my fist Mistress and the rest was history. After that it became an obsession... errr ...uummm...addiction... aaahhh I mean mission to own them all. If I didn't have kids or was well off I'd still have ever Busse I've ever owned.

You cant be a knife guy and not have owned a trailmaster or other large CS. I still own a bunch.

Yup, I’ve got a bunch around here somewhere lol. All purchased around 1994 ish ???

Hey Cobalt Cobalt ! This is really legendary blade! You are so lucky, man!
This is THE MISTRESS that has started my addiction. This knife and the review by Cliff have shown me the right way and the “riddle of steel”. ;)

True. That review made many believers.

I don't have any but I went straight to Bussekin from folders so I never saw the need for any CS blades.

In the 90's the Trailmaster and kin were kings of large blades. But modern times, there is so many more options. I can see today people not having a trailmaster or any CS knives. I still think they make good knives.

Weren't the older Cold Steel knives actually made by Camillus? Most of mine are of the "Carbon V" steel; a few years ago at Blade I sat down next to Lynn Thompson in the refreshment area in the back. I asked him how the new steel being used in the Cold Steel line compared to the old, and his reply was "not as good".
