The Moose is Loose!

Whenever I see a moose I can't help but think of nessmuk and his trio of blades. I must say I think that Nessmuk was right in choosing this folder seeing as it has two of the most practical blade profiles that can be found on a traditonal slipjoint. I've realy neglected the Moose the attention it deserves and could use a few more examples in my collection/EDC rotation.

The Moose is one pattern I have yet to own, though I have been looking at the GEC's on the 66 frame. Then I'll just have to get a Nessmuk and a double bit axe in time for Scout camping season :D

I wanna play too. Love this one.

I've never held a moose before, but even though it has equal length blades (not something I usually care for), I am intrigued by it. The closest thing I have is a modern (Benchmade for H&K maybe) with gut hook third blade. I hope I can find one at the local antique show on Good Friday, it is all I need for a true Nessmuks combo!

Thanks for posting up the pictures everybody, just gets the juices flowing more! Probably the next pattern I actively search for.

Did someone say Mooses?
CJ65 decided to really make my day today and gave me this beautiful S&M Railsplitter Moose. Thanks again Chris.

That's a dandy Charlie! Very nice! What size
is that one? If you don't mind me asking...

Great thread. It's not a pattern I've really followed in the past, but I like seeing all of the variations.

I agree with Jason on Charlie's knife. It even has the long pulls going into the tangs.

WOW!!...after stalking my long suffering post lady for the last few days,my wonderful prize from Duncan has arrived..it is a very nice knife, solid feel, great centreing and snap!!...just VERY! cool!!....I cant wait to sharpen this and try it out on everything!....It looks great with my Lloyd too.............thanks to this forum, for without it,i would never have known what a (MOOSE) was...(apart from the obvious).....and special thanks to you Duncan, for your generosity,it will not be forgotten my friend..Nyawen..............................................FES

That Davis Moose is 4 1/4" long, guys.
Terry Davis doesn't make a ton of knives, but he is a bit of a "hero" out west. He brings 6-12 knives to Oregon every year, and sells out in seconds!
He used to do the card draw like Tony, but lately just hands them to the first hand he sees in the sea of hands!
(Did I just write that sentence???)
It is a repop of a very old knife. I forgot the brand. I'll ask him when I see him.
He is a sole author. Treats his own steel, jigs and dyes his own handles.

I wish he handed out knives like that here. I need to go to the Oregon show someday. :)

A couple more Moose sightings:

I like the bone on the Northfield, Jake.
And I have a fondness for the 2010 Forum Moose, obviously. And it is a truly Moosey knife; big, slightly crude, but mechanically excellent. It's like having a big pet that slobbers everywhere, but is always there for you! I have two - one sits on my desk, ready to bash home invaders on the head.
The other one is in the right side glovebox of my truck. It counters my weight, and keeps my truck riding level!

It's always good to have a Moose or two around!

:D:D:D

I think I better take my medication. . . . . .

i have absolutely no idea why
but that case g10 moose is just beautiful to me
stainless steel i presume?
if so, is it a good worker with the stainless steel??
If you had asked me before I owned this if I would ever consider a traditional in G10 I would have said "absolutely not!" But I was searching for a moose and this one caught my eye. It looks even better in person. The blades are stainless and are good workers they have a 'stonewashed' sort of finish like the stainless soddie. The F and F is as good as any of the best Cases I have seen, rides well in the pocket for such a big knife.

Really nice examples, Jake and everyone. Here are a couple from Tidioute.
