This is going to be a very angry thread, filled with piss and vinegar.

I say Mears, just because reading his books and whatnot, he comes across as a true professional. I could be wrong.

I really like Kochanski myself.

Codger ;)

Stroud isn't "Survivorman" that is an actor playing a part. He does have some documentaries where he is just himself. Mear's obviously has much more information/experience at bushcraft but he is more about wilderness living than wilderness survival.

I'm pretty sure Mears is an ex-marine with her majesty's forces would anyone help me confirm that. Stroud is just an ex rocker bushwacker.

And there's the can of whoop-ass I've been waiting for.;)

I don't know Mears is certainly good at survival and bushcraft, I think he has had different series on the BBC going back 20 years or more and he has travelled all over the world learning from different cultures.
I think Les is better at survival techniques then his survivorman series shows, however from what I can tell I think Les is more knowledgeable about Canadian type environments then those found in other areas

survivorman is as much about some guy bumbling about the woods as it is about any survival technique of merit.

I've never seen mears but I'll vote that hes probably better than stroud.

If you want to understand what Mears is like, you know when Stroud is building a wood based shelter, which he does fairly well (aside from when he lights it on fire accidently) and is comfortable and natural doing it - Mears is like that with everything, all the time, and much more so.

kool responses.. after avidly watching both series over and over and over again =) i'd have to go with mears personally. i just wish his damn survival classes werent always booked or else i might go and sign up. it'd be pretty kool to meet him in person eh?

i think stroud is kool in his own way in that hes just plain nuts. going into places with just a leatherman and what hes got on? but i'd say that IMO survival is about being prepared to deal with unfamiliar and sometimes extreme situations.

therefore my vote goes to mears

cheers ^^
