The Mystique of the Hamon

Redsnake- great contributions, thanks.

Let's keep 'em coming folks.

Calling all photogs!

Coop - I know you have two full time jobs but we need you here pal! :)

Buddy, Caleb, Chuck! Y'all touch too many knives not to have favorites!!

I find them as frustrating as they are beautiful! I keep swearing I will stop doing them but never do!

A couple of my better ones:

Channing I have to say, I've seen those blades a few times and EVERY time I drool at it. Gotta be one of my favorite profiles and everything.

Exceptional Joe!

Not traditional I know, but I do like the ostrich sayas too.

A man could spend hours in that room without losing interest, I'm sure.

One maker that truly understands hamon is Jesus Hernandez. Here's one of many available for viewing on his website

There are many more wonderful examples on his website. If you're unfamiliar with his work you owe it to yourself to take a look - www.jhbladesmith.com

Been a big fan of this guys work for a while now. Outstanding blades, would love to own one.

Another guys that I thought had great Japanese style work was Louis Mills, not sure if he's still around. Very talented man.

I had to dig deep into the archives to find this one. This is the most spectacular hamon I can remember seeing here at BF.

This pic shows it more closely (taken by RogerP):

And here's another personal favourite from my 'drool files', just for fun:

HAVE to throw this one up here from Matt Lamey... this knife makes me weak at the knees with desire.

Some fantastic knives shown gents. A few that I can contribute:

Roger - I'm addled with Branson envy. I didn't know you ended up with that rustic rig. That's one of my favorite hamon from him. The waki's great too!

Sweet Lurquins.

I thought you'd toss in the Dark Rider for good measure :)

Thanks Seth - the hamon on Stuart's rustic east / west fusion bowie is even more insane than Coop's excellent pic suggests. Every time I look at it, one word comes to mind: Fogg.

Ahhh Fogg --- the only fog where the more one encounters, the clearer one sees! :)

Glad you chimed in Roger.

How about you other big collectors out there?

Big Rick? The Virginian? Cross? Kevin? Toss your hamon hats into the ring! Your comrades in arms need you ;)
