I Should mention that a general name is good enough, as I am having trouble determining the subspecies

OK, I'm back now :D The leaves are edible and the seeds contain mucilage and can be used as a thickening agent.

(these arent my pictures, but there are about ten of them around my yard)

fruits produced are the highest in fat out of any vegitable product. They grow in moist areas all across north America.
 
Considered to be an invasive weed, this annual plant is a monocot with alternative lanceolate leaves that are 2 to 4 inches long. Grows from 6 - 12 inches tall on average. The young leaves and flowers are very tasty.
