The "Name that Plant" Game

Just a thought, even though the poster is including edible/medicinal/whatever information, it might be a good idea if anybody else knows something regarding these attributes, to chime in.

Also, regarding Image Shack, is it free? Any other problems signing up?

HD, you didn't use to have problems accessing photobucket pictures, what changed?

Doc

Nope. Didn't eat it. She was wondering what it was, so I triied to look it up. Her neighbor was the one that correctly id'd it.

Hey GS, 10 pages so far - that's excellent for a skills related subject

Theo, is that the range map for Asiatic Dayflower? I've never seen it before.

Also, isn't yucca used as a soap substitute?

Image shack is free and simple to sign up. No issues with use at all:thumbup:

Theo, do you have Brills book on Shoots and Greens of early spring?

Doc

Nope, didn't even know about it :o I do have his Identifying and Harvesting Edible and Medicinal Plants. Pretty good book, just wish it had color pics at times.

I'll have to check into tonight - getting ready to go out for a bit of a hike right now. Looking for some strange/odd/weird/extirpated tree for QB

It's not bad, but kind of pricey. Check on his website.

How come you show up as off-line?

Doc

I'm in invisible mode, it's a feature available to paying members only I believe. I can turn it off if it's bothersome :D

No, just curious. :D

I wasn't expecting a quick response because you showed up as offline.

I have Shoots and Greens, the one you mentioned, and his Wild Vegetarian Cook Book (for incompetent hunters :D )

Here's another edible

Roots and flowerstalk are edible. Could be more but I don't remember..

Roadsides, disturbed areas are good place to find this one.

Should be pretty easy for you guys.

This trifoliate herb is native to North America from southern Canada to Tennessee and as far west as Minnesota. It grows about 6 inches tall.

This is another yummy one, I love eating the leaves along the trail, has a lemony flavor.

Also guys. I see Hollow Dweller is lurking. Try to post images with imageshack or Fotki if it's posible. That poor bastid can't acess Photobucket. It will be fun if he can play too...

Ha! You stumped me on that Bloodroot.

Grows on my place, seen it a million times but for some reason I can never retain it.

Must be too much of the diggety dank:D

I know them as sour clovers, the first wild edible i learned. aka Melilotus indicus

Years ago I was visiting my buddies farm.

He sold straw and offered to give us some.

He gave us a big truckload and I thought he was quite generous.

Later on I noticed that the straw was full of Burdock and he probably couldn't sell much of it cause people were scared to buy it.

So now where we have used the straw for bedding and then as organic compost on our gardens we have some impressive burdock plants.

Luckily our donkey runs loose and he loves the stuff, will eat it to the ground and kill it but we have to fight it out of our beds.
