The new Case Bose teardrop

In the Blade Guide to Knives, a couple pages are devoted to Tony, including his patterns. I believe the wharncliff trapper was on his list. As Tony said, these patterns are out there for everyone to honor. I think I might give the tear drop another try, hopefully can get one in amber bone or chestnut bone and CV.

I was expecting mine to arrive today, USPS moved the delivery date from Saturday to Thursday...today, but it didn't make it, so hopefully tomorrow she'll be here.

Now I recently picked up a slanted bolstered peanut with stag scales but it was REALLY thick stag scales, plus a bit of blade play had me return it, I would have gone for stag on this Teardrop but since the site didn't have a photo shot showing a view of how thick the scales are, I didn't want to chance it and went with the more pocket worn one, which is the Peanut I ended up getting later and love it.

Anyone else have more photos of theirs I'm sure we'd appreciate seeing them :) or a video or two, I've not seen any more vids except for the low res one with Tony Bose, which was great but wish it was better resolution and longer time spent with some closeups, yeah, I know, asking a lot eh? :dejection:

I think it would look amazing in raindrop damascus. I have yet to own one of the damascus Case knives, but one of these would seriously make me consider it.

+10

But then again, even a 'tater would look great in Raindrop Damascus. lol :)

I am not very video adept. Here is what I was able to get uploaded. The stag is pretty thick, but I find it very comfortable and useful. I haven't been able to stop using and fondling it since I got it.

That's great !

Thanks so much for that it helps a good deal to see it in hand opening and closing

Hah !!!!

Arrival and VERY NICE, love it and I would recommend this highly.

Pen blade about same length as the one on the Peanut but with a bit more handle to give a secure grip without being too big, non-tater like :)

edited to add some quick shots, both blades sharp now, the pen would cut but not the main, but not a big deal. As mentioned elsewhere, both blades have halfstops, now the beauty with this knife, the springs are fairly flat in all three positions for both blades :) for me that's a first!

Compared to the Case Peanut;

and laid down it's only a smidgen thicker than the Peanut;

as shown in the video earlier, the Teardrop has a heftier end on it, which feels about right to me in use, as Tony said, it does add a bit of class to the folder.

Nice pictures Gary! Good looking knives. Do you have pictures of the edges as well? How thin are they just above the edge? Thanks! :-)

Thanks JD, the blades are not super thin, the GEC knives seem to have that down a bit better, thinner edges on the one's I've owned, but the Case might have a stronger working edge possibly by keeping a little more beef behind the edge, we'll see.

Measured as close to the top of the bevel and it was right about 1/2 mm there, so it cuts pretty well, but, you do need to get that sharpened out, here are some shots of my blades, as best I could do at the table top near the computer;

teardrop_edge.jpg

The tip did need a bit more work to get it so it was pointy enough to pierce a paper towel without pushing the towel back, most knives will do that until you push far enough to cause it to enter the towel, but a very sharp point will pierce it quickly and not make a tent out of the towel.

the pen arrived a little sharper than the main blade but it also needed to get the point in order;

I'm really liking the weight and feel of this folder a lot, that plus the back springs being flat in all three positions is a true plus for me, that and the extra metal back spring on the pen blade does add some character to the look of the folder. Looking down inside you'll see that from the edge of the extra part slopes gently down into the handle, so it's not just a squared off end, I'm sure that made for easier machining but it does look sleeker in my opinion ;)

Blade centering, I know there are some of you folks that are keen on things like that, the main blade favours the outside edge of the handle but doesn't rub, the pen blade is spot on for center. I guess I've never been one to worry about that but I know some of you guys/gals might want to know regarding their relative positions.

Another thing too, the blades are pretty straight when opened too, unlike the Peanut that comes with an angle down when opened, while I 'fixed' my peanut to not be angled as much, I didn't need to do anything with this except sharpen her up. Both blades took a keen edge too ;)

Great job on the sharpening Gary. My single blade ebony needs work on the tip as well. Did you freehand that?

~Jim

Thanks sir and yes that was done by hand, no fixtures, I use the shapton glass stones and then a leather strop

hrmm i always kinda considered it a plus when the blade angled down rather than straight. Maybe its just me, but i figured it made for better cutting since it was preventing the material of sliding off the blade. I have thought about this when comparing my texas jack (straight) and my gec 85 (pronounced downward angle of the blade).

never occurred to me that someone would prefer it the other way.
Different strokes for different folks i guess :D

still a purty one you got there :thumbup:

I know what you mean, that's why I had the word fixed with ' ' around it, as there are some that would not consider it a true fix or that it ever needed fixed in the first place, just me for sure ;) part of that OCD I have I think!

and yep, this teardrop is purty by far, really like her a lot! but still like the Peanut as well too. That pocketworn feel is great on both knives! The peanut has a bit better walk and talk than the teardrop does though...

Thanks for the extra information and the pictures Gary! Nice clean bevels you have put on those blades :-)

Hello Gary. Thank you for posting your pics. You have a very nice knife and I hope to have one soon....as soon as I can make my mind on which one. The red and pocket worn look is winning out at this moment.
Thank you again and thank you to all who posted pics. Tony did a great job with this and I for one love the blade shape.

Found a dealer who sends overseas (at last...) and a Red Pocketworn will be winging its way here. Very excited about it actually! Was going for the Amber Bone Barehead but couldn't locate one. The Ebony REALLY catches my eye but seems they're in very limited supply/issue.

I feel these are going to make a very nice carry indeed and I'm impressed by the extended wraparound spring, the CASE Swayback Jack and last year's Forum knife sport this feature but it seems rare in non-customs. A real touch of class in my book.

Regards, Will

I'm biased of course, but I think you'll love it Will, congrats on finding someone that had them in stock to ship overseas.

and the bevels, I try to keep with what was original, possibly widening slightly, the pen blade had a wider bevel than the main blade and you can just make out the difference in the photos above.

Both blades are great in my opinion, I don't find the main blade to be too long as can sometimes be the case in folders, there are times you might need a longer blade, but for me it's not too often and then I just use the #9 Opinel if I need to slice up a thick sandwich ;)

I don't have the best area to do a video but I may try to get one to go along with the one already in this thread, which reminds me, Berkley, what was that other knife you had in the video? looked pretty cool to me too !!! :)

Gary, that'll be the Forum Knife from 2013 that I mentioned earlier.

I'm still amazed that people can open a pocket-knife with their right thumb-nail though! For me, just impossible...:eek::D:thumbup:

Ah, sorry, misinterpreted the Red pocketworn to be the Teardrop version ;)

and yes, that does seem strange to see it opened with a right thumb nail !

Just ordered this one. I liked the pins much better than the other models.
Mods, if the picture violates any rules because of the captured business name just tell me and I'll delete the pic.
Best regards

Robin
