Snarking in the outdoors right now

took off work a couple hours early to enjoy the cool weather this afternoon - once it stopped raining.
split some wood, fired up the smoker, cooked a pork loin (minus the 2 "steaks" I cut off one end and grilled on my lodge sportsman) and 5 chicken breasts.
then went out and built a fire around a tree stump and kept that going while I goofed off in the forge for a few hours.

A productive day indeed. I was pretty much a bum today. Yesterday though, I weed eated, edged the sidewalks, mowed, burned the brush pile that's accumulated for over a year, and got the shed cleaned out.

“hello I'm new around these parts. Ordered my first Becker, the Kephart not long ago and just ordered a BK9 to be delivered Monday. I'll try to post some pics after use next week.”

Hey Uncle Slayton Uncle Slayton welcome to BK&T!!
The Kephart and Niner are a hell of a way to start your collection.
Feel free to hang out, ask questions, make observations. Be part of the crowd. Post pics for sure. We like pics around here.
*Bonus for bacon with knife pics. :D

Pitched my hot tent (Octopeak Ultralight 6p) today for the first time, and got it seam sealed on the outside. Wife is out there now doing the inside. Pretty nice rig. First time to seam seal. Can't say it was much fun. I did the deal where you mix mineral spirits into the silicone, dab it on with a brush, then wipe off the excess. Now I need to do a burn in on my stove, plus get my Minipeak XL sealed:

Getting set for 2 days onboard "Old Glory" in a week. I was not successful in getting any of the clan members to ride along this year on a sport boat. I cancelled my April reservations because of circumstances beyond me, that trip limited out on bluefin tuna. ;)
We were treated this year to our most epic dorado summer ever. Dorado? In SoCal? The intensity of the bite has begun to wain, but, as always, there are more fish in the sea.

First impressions?
so I can compare this to the following

Ontario SP53
Ka-Bar 1248
Ontario 6420 kukri
Ka-Bar 1249 kukri

i can't claim to have the hours in on any of the blades above to be definitive. most of my work has been with saws and axes/hatchets. I do not regret buying any of those tools listed above but I feel the bk9 may best them. again I had about 2 hours this afternoon before I had to go to a family deal. hope to get back innawoods soon. first impressions are very favorable :)

Wife recently got an e-bike, so today we decided to go for a little ride to a park a few miles outside of town. Took the trailer with a few supplies. Was gonna take the 14, but realized I forgot it about half way there.

The bikes:

They have a family size grill there, plus a small one. We opted for the small one, but she was kinda bent:

A bigger picture:

Burgers on:

Burgers and chips, an easy meal:

Only knife shot I got:

We had a lot of fun.

Kleen Strip sure loses its potency after 6 years, haha. The last time I used it was 2016 when I modded my Cam 2. It started working after a few minutes. Today, it was like a thick gooey jello. Been on there for hours, and I still have to scrape like the dickens.

Advent calendars started showing up in stores a couple weeks ago.
Beer advent calendars.
Obviously, the intent is to use them for more seasonal appropriate holidays, so I'm thinking about putting Halloween stickers on one.
or maybe starting it tomorrow
