John,

When do you think that you will be posting the finished item?

Regards,

Ed

Hi all I'm back from a weekend away. The responses to this project have been great! I should be able to handle most special requests (chisel grinds, wave,no wave, etc). Just contact me and let me know what you're looking for.The price of $75 that John quoted will pretty much get you what you want. I look foward to working on more of these projects. Thanks to all.

WAY TO WICKED LOOKING !! Liberals will have a stroke !! This HAS to be one of those "assault knifes" I keep hearing about. Put me down for one , No , make that 2 !!

John

Who is doing the serrations for you as I'm getting one of my Commander's done and while it's in the US, I'd like to get it serratted as well !

Might even save some tax when I have to pay the mail man to get it back !

Most importantly, did we ever 'name' this new Commander ?

I have emailed Mike Turber, aka "Mr. Bladeforums", as I recall he has a serrating wheel, but have not yet heard back from him.

As to the name, I've heard a couple of good ones. The "Command Rhino" was one of my favorites, but I think Joel's name for it is best . . . The "Combat Commander". I assume that's a trade marked name, as it's also a gun model name, but there again, we're not marketing it and trying to make a profit off thier name. I could call my knife an "Oreo Cookie" if I wanted.

I think it's best to avoid referencing to it as a Rhino as it may confuse some that don't know the difference.

Anyone else have any ideas?

John

Could follow the military method and call it the RhinoA1 although I don't know if Mr. Emerson would approve.

Hmmm, Pirela Commander. I like it.

Joel, you did post the pic that started this all off and I suspect that a few of the usual suspects will be having one of their Commanders worked on, so why not !

Anyone got any other names we can call this conversion ? If not, I think the Pirela Commander will stick.

My dad is a "Commander" in Venezuela's Navy so I'm used to listen to: "Comandante Pirela" which translates to "Pirela Commander" ; )

Joel

So, Pirela Commander it is !

Anyone have any objections ? If not I suggest this is it's name.

thats pretty sharp looking, besides i really like that wave. about how long did it take to develop and has anyone cut themself with that second edge.

-website comming soon!

As far as a wave goes...Well in an ideal world the second edge would never cut anything on a properly executed wave draw. Reality dictates that a second edge would likely cut into the trousers and their wearer eventually.

The lack of a thumb ramp on the Rhino may actually be intentional based on the knife's specific range of use. Thumbs might limit the angle of attack when drawing the cut or just plain get in the way.
When no one is looking, mimic the motion with your thumb extended and you will see what I am speculating about. Of course Ernie could answer this one with certainty.

I admit that the "Pirela Commander" is one hell of a great looking knife!Put me down for one without the Wave, I don't like to cut myself and I think I will leave the top edge without serrations.!
