The thread for pre-order list should be locked once the max waiting number is reached (obviously).

Once locked, what kind of forum moderator level does one need to be to edit posts and remove non-buying posts from threads? Can Nate and Jo do that?

Because ideally, only cpk should edit posts for who paid and who has been delivered. Once locked, any edits to ones order will have to be thru cpk (like Tin Foil's case).

Here's another scenario. Say I put down for 2 FKs in pre-order and pre-paid. Now I get lucky on a Friday sale and land a FK. Would I still be committed to the 2 I pre-ordered? Would the funds from the pre-order be applied to the Friday sale? I assume the answer would be in order; no, yes. Just something else to consider and its more thread/list maintenance.

Good points, I had initially thoguht I would put in for 1 on the list and try for 1 on the Friday sale, but now you have me thinking. Should I go 2 on the list and not risk missing on the sale, or how it would work, because I don't want to end up winning a friday then stuck having to buy off the list and then selling that, and getting run outta town for flipping.

I envision it would be ok to take you off the list if you scored on Friday. Everyone behind you would be happy and no worries for being tagged as a flipper. It's just more time away from the shop to maintain a list on a forum.

Nobody is getting tagged as a flipper unless it's being a real problem. I wouldn't worry about it.

The idea is to try to keep it simple. People place an order for what they want, then leave it alone. I ship them what they want and everybody is happy. If it gets complicated it's not going to work. I have misgivings about doing this but a lot of people are requesting it.

I would suggest that if you plan to buy something on a sale, don't also buy it on a pre-order, because you're making two separate orders and asking me to cancel the one out with the other. That sounds simple, but multiply it by several people asking that same thing and add it to the existing circus and you have a real problem. You guys haven't seen my freakin inbox. My inbox is already overwhelming me and when there's money involved the stakes of a misunderstanding goes up. That turns stressful for me and I'm not doing it.

So, to keep things simple: If you want to order a knife at a sale - do so. If you want to pre-order a knife - do so. If you want to change your orders, swap things around, cancel and substitute and otherwise complicate the process, please don't.

I like simple. Thank you for being willing to do this to hopefully get your knives into more people's hands. It's appreciated.

If anyone wins on the Fridays sales which I am sure by the sound of things will follow and supersede the preorder thread, either vacate your winning bid on Friday or just pay up for the darn knife :)

What is it that you lunatics keep preaching? "One is none, two is one and three is a crowd", or whatever it is that some of you babble on :D

Therein lies the dilemma!

I think that for all intends and purposes once the post is marked paid and awaiting fulfillment, then that preorder post ought to be considered "closed" to be fair to everyone else. Otherwise it should definitely be closed when marked paid and not be able to be perpetually updated!

No disrespect is meant to you THT.

None taken. As I stated, I'll play by whatever rules the game has. No questions asked. I'm not going to stomp on toes to get knives for my 2 year old, newborn, and future child before they're ready for em. ;) Maybe the urgency will grow once they're a bit more toward the age of bushcrafting. :);)

Woah woah woah. WOAHHHHH. D3V will be superseded by Unobtainium long before your newborn is ready for a Field Knife. Better leave some for us.

What do you guys think?

Sounds like a pain in the tuckus. Too many details to worry about with the list. You gotta figure out all contingencies, honest and otherwise, and cover your a**. Whoever really wants one of your knives can figure out how to get one as things are. At least one black belt in key-fu has even offered to proxy, iirc. All that said, I'm by no means opposed.

If I arrange for a spot on the list for say two field knives, and pay, can I add to my order once more funds become available if my order has not been filled yet?

I'd say no, especially since it's prepay. More confusion and time eaten from Nathan's life. Make a new post with your new order. I'd make it one post per order, not per person, in the thread.

How is anyone gonna keep track of what's been posted so someone doesn't change their post after the initial post and payment? Honor system? Invitation for a headache.

Also, I suggest a purchase cap, say three of a model per month, both in preorders and Friday sales.

- Would like for Jo to contact participants in the preorder thread via PM for payment and shipping information, as the BF email system can be hit and miss!

- "None paying members are unable to modify their posts"

Nonpaying users (everyone for that matter) could leave their email address in their post, or it could be the poster's responsibility to make the initial contact via email with payment and shipping info. The latter seems desirable in any case as it would take the load off of Jo. Email through outside accounts seems preferable to PM's or forum email because it would provide a more reliable paper trail.

Nonpaying members can indeed edit their posts; at least I can.

No cancelling preorders; more confusion=work=time for the Carothers, considering the billing/accounting details involved. If you end up with an extra one, you should have no problem finding a buyer for it in short order.

My 2¢.

Here's a late night/early morning thought; just use the Friday sale thread as the pre-order list.

Those that are quick with their "key-fu" will get to have it shipped sooner (in stock). Those late-comers will make up the pre-order list by paying, but waiting for inventory.

Edit: This is probably a sleep-deprived idea that will suck when I wake up tomorrow.

Truly, I was only thinking out loud, and trying to be proactive. :D

Idk how I could find ONE field knife, let alone three ATM.

My thoughts exactly ...
I say do the normal Friday sale for whatever amount of knifes , say 20 , then you have 60 people posting to buy , boom there is your pre order list of 40 people in chronological order . Send payment and wait for your sweet blade to arrive !

I would really love to get in on this, but not sure I want to become a paying member right now. Guess we'll see what happens, hopefully it will work out for people like me!

I will follow whatever rules you plan on doing. So far everything said sounds pretty good. One question with the pre order list say one lands at # 30 on list. Does one pay when their order number comes up or as soon as they post on list.
I'm good either way just curious.
Thanks

My understanding from Nathan's preorder list/thread idea is this:

The participant in the preorder will have to prepay for the said preorder order after he (or she) is contacted by Jo via PM on here. I think that Jo will systematically go down the preorder list and an invoice will be generated accordingly. Obviously payment is expected in a reasonable manner of time but if this was left up to me and say it takes the guy at # 3 to take a whole week to pay as opposed to to the guy at # 15 who will take within say 15 minutes of getting invoiced, by the definition of first-come-first-served, the latter ought to receive priority over the former. In other words, it is how fast you complete your end of the deal that matters, not where you stand in an arbitrary line if you have not consummated the deal. Just MHO!

Dear Mr. Nandoc: please understand that I was not advocating the purchase of a paid membership for those who do not wish to do so or projecting an attitude of elitism vis a vis paid or unpaid membership. The ability to PM or there lack of was what I had taken from Nathan's post. My error.

Casino, No worries; I didn't take it like that. Nor did I mean to come across as favoring a certain preorder list protocol. My response to your quote was meant simply as factual clarification. My intent with my post was to provide data for Nathan to base his decision on. I am not attached to whether or how he does a preorder list. And actually I do believe in perks for paid members; they keep this board in existence, after all!
