The Official Lanyard Thread

Definitely needed to remove the core threads on the Boker one I just did, and as you say, you just cut that off once you get it pulled through. I was pretty surprised at how large a knot that made with such a small cord, pretty cool knot, I seldom use this smaller cord as it's just not the quality of my regular cord, but it does come in handy at times.

I bought this BNIPouch Monterey Bay Knives, Gerry McGinnis Sprocket on the Exchange last week and picked it up at my PO this afternoon. I didn't have much of anything in my rather depleted bead inventory that looked like it would go with the knife, but this modest little engraved ring that came to me with another knife since sold seems to work pretty well along with Licorice 550 tied up with 6 snake knots.

I've been adding fobs to more knives since I last posted in this thread. I like the personality they add to a knife, and it's fun to match the cord and (sometimes) bead to the vibe of the knife. Here's a nearly complete rundown. :)

They're all snake knots (it's the nicest knot I know and it works so well) and 550 cord unless otherwise noted.

Matriarch 2 (I redid the original owner's excellent fob to freshen up the cord -- and this is the first time I've liked a fob on a knife with a pocket clip)

Artisan Cutlery Biome (95 / Type 1 paracord)

SAK Cadet (I know the bead is huge for this knife...but for some reason it feels right)

I mostly just use a simple one that allows for pinky finger retention on my carry knives. A while back I went on a reflective paracord kick and ordered a bunch of different colors and like to use something different on every knife.

Kmikaz3 Kmikaz3 , that hand grenade style bead in your first pic looks big enough to actually contain explosive material. Even disarmed it's substantial enough to qualify as a weapon making your knife a double-ended self-defense threat.

For my part, I finally found a bead I liked for my Cheburkov Voron and tied up a fresh lanyard yesterday. I'd had a very plain black thermoplastic bead as a placeholder as I didn't want something that would bang up the unadorned gray-bronze anodized lock side. I was surprised how difficult it was to find something in red with a bit of character to complement the CTek showside, but got this one off the artsy-craftsy site last week. I decided on plain black 550 cord but gutted out 3 inner strands to get a tighter wrap around the back post as the blade is right there. I tied one snake knot tight to the butt to keep it in place. Gary W. Graley Gary W. Graley 's whipping knot would be a good if not better choice there, but I've not yet tried one despite having bought two spools of waxed cord some time back. Next time, GG, ok?

Anyway, I tied extended crown and diamond's each side of the bead. I like these knots a lot, but they're a PIA to cinch up right, especially on the back one hard up against the bead. Getting all the lobes balanced and tight enough though not too tight was made harder with the gutted cord's tendency to get squeezed too flat. I used the narrow end of an unattached fid to help work them even and I can keep tweaking over time to get them more balanced.

Thanks, man. There are several YouTube tutorials on the Extended Crown and Diamond, though I'd master the regular Crown and Diamond first.

I particularly like the Weavers of Eternity vids. I only know 6 or 7 knots and ofttimes my old brain gets confused if I haven't used one for a while, so then it's back to YT for a refresher for me. I'm not proud and there's nobody watching me anyway. ;)

Extended Crown and Diamond . Crown and Diamond .

 I actually learned most of my paracord knots from him from Diamond/Ranger knots to something more basic like serpent knots. Thanks for the knots name and linked videos! Ill certain try to add some more varieties to my lanyards... Kinda tired of the serpent knots but then again trying something new is kinda intimidating, it gets you out of your comfort zone
