The "Official" T.M. Hunt Custom Knives Random Chat Thread

Todd-

I used my Magua to skin my first deer this morning. It was like a sharp and pointy extension to my hand. So comfortable and maneuverable.

Really outstanding craftsmanship on that little sucker.

I love it.

Your love will be measured in pounds of venison received.

Glad to hear it. Ive field dressed several deer with a knife my dad made for me waaaaaaay back when I was 8yrs. old. Its one of the main reason why I love 01 so much. Congrads on the deer. what did you kill? buck? doe? got any pics?

She was a pretty good sized doe.

Unfortunately, the only pic I got of her is on my little dumb phone. I did take a pic of my Magua before cleaning it up.

If you don't mind walls of texts, this is the story of my hunt that morning.

Went out Thursday morning at the asscrack of dawn for the second shotgun season opener. Drove my car part way down a grass lane to get a little closer. As I opened my car door to get the shotgun, I heard a couple deer snorting and wheezing and carrying-on. Busted, and my hunt hadn't even started yet.:grumpy:

Oh well. More fish in the sea. Or deer in the woods, as the case may be.:D

Decided to proceed into the valley, and picked out a worthy looking tree to sit in front of. It is a very cool experience to be in woods at dawn and watch it wake up. Squirrels barking, birds chirping, a couple hen turkeys clucking back and forth down the way. Crisp, gentle breeze blowing down the valley as black turns to different shades of gray. Sun casting its first rays through the trees. Really an overall fantastic experience.

Fast forward an hour and half and my legs have fallen asleep and my ass is numb from sitting on the frozen ground. No deer activity to speak of. Enough of this waiting, time to go hunt.

Stood on wobbly, tingly legs, got my balance and proceeded to get my stealth on. :D

Crept slowly through the middle of the pasture, (we call them) "mountains" on either side. Perhaps 200 feet steep enough to require four legs to efficiently traverse.

Made it about 70 yards in 20 minutes, hugging the mountain to the west. Keeping my eyes peeled for any sign of movement.

That came soon in the form of a couple white tails bouncing through the woods away from me. Decided perhaps it would be a good idea to walk towards the mountain on the east, in the hopes that the two runaways would try to make a break for it and cut across the pasture, go up the hill and cross the property line. As I stood watching intently for any movement to the west, I heard a couple crunching leaves to my right.

Slowly turned to see what the commotion was and saw about half a dozen does walking around at the bottom of the east mountain. As I raised Grandpa's Wingmaster to my shoulder, they started to scramble. Went in all different directions, including one coming straight at me. She turned broad side about 15 yards away, so I took my aim and pulled the trigger. She turned and high-tailed it away from me for about 20 yards before falling over.

Dead, my first deer.

Nice kill!

Why on the ground instead of in a stand?

Not much of tree stand person. I have sat in them before, and just feel a little restricted.

By sitting on the ground it is easier for me to get up and go to them, rather than wait for them.

Christmas time is here. Not for me however. This was the load of TMHunt knives going to the PO today. More knives than boxes, seems like people are ordering a lot of matching sets these days. (That's a good thing) Not quite caught up for the holidays yet but me and the elves are working hard.

My next post will be #500. I'm pretty excited. Suggestions on how best to expend it?

Wait till after all the suggestions then say something like " good suggestions everyone, I'll take it into consideration".

I know what you could do, you should celebrate the 500th with a GAW. You could have a contest and give away that big Harley you don't ride anymore. That would be fun. I'm in. Thanks for the chance.

Oh Hell yeah! Make sure the saddle bags are still packed with alcohol.
