The Official ZT0562 Thread!! (FIRST LOOK)

I'm not a fan of the thumbstud being only a blade stop, and isn't meant to function as an actual thumb stud anymore. That was the kicker for me...I'm a thumb stud guy, A flipper is nice but without a thumb stud I'm pretty much totally turned off.

If they're not going to make the knife so that the thumbstuds are usable to open the knife, they should just go with a pin in the handle. It'd look much cleaner.

Personally, I'd rather they just got rid of the thumbstuds altogether and just went with a blade stop pin in the frame. I HATE knives that use the thumbstuds as bladestops.

Tell that to Hinderer. Apparently he and ZT are doing something right, or they wouldn't be selling and winning awards like they do.

Only the 0550/0551 had legit thumbstuds. The 0560/1, 0566, 0562, etc use them exclusively as blade stops. It just so happens that some of us are able to flick 'em open.

I'm with you. I flip it like a rocket. It took some vids and an hour or two of pratice, and breaking it in, but my 0561 opens sweeter than anything I've ever owned.

here is my 2 cents on the thumbs stud/blade stop.... unitl i recently got my first Sebenza, i thought that the stud on the 560 was retarded as well, but those of you who own or have owned a CRK i am sure will agree that the way you flick out that knife applies perfectly to the 560( kind of wedging your thumb into the stud rather than sweeping it out? ) i don't know if that is a great description, but it made a lot of sense after i figured out the crk! now i can flick the 560 in my sleep! here is to hoping that the 562's will be the same!

I'd agree with getting rid of the "thumb studs" a well made stop pin is just as strong for anything a folder is going to take, and not having the "thumb studs" makes a much cleaner looking knife/blade design. Plus people won't keep trying to use them for something the manufacturer does not intend. As long as you put them on the blade the average guy is going to think they are thumb studs. My guess is it's a cheaper/easier process to just drill the blade for a thumb stud compared to machining the slabs/liners for a stop pin. Sadly more and more design choices in knives these days even in mid-techs are based on cutting costs.

As to the release date, as with most ZT's expect it to be longer than expected rather than shorter :)

I was able to place a preorder for a 0562CF yesterday on knifecenter, $209 and no charge until it ships.

After days of battling with myself, I finally gave in (or did I win?) and placed my preorder too. I realized it's pretty much PM2 sized, only heavier which on most days I can deal with. Worst case scenario if I don't like it, it might end up the first knife I've ever sold.

I hate preordering from them because they send an email every week telling you it's not out yet.

If anyone preordered from one of the other retailers, say for $240, give them a call. They will match the $209.95 knifecenter price on your existing pre-order.

Just got confirmation of this working... thanks much for the heads up KOTR.

How will the 0562 will compare in size with the 0561? I have the 0561 here for resharpening from my brother but I'm finding it a tad too big.

I believe the blade is 1/4 inch less, so I'd guess around a half an inch overall give or take? I'm pretty sure that both specs are on ZT's website

Well after months of looking at this damn thing I finally just placed a preorder on KC before it was too late. $209 is a great deal for such a knife. A lanyard hole would be sweet...but it's not a deal breaker for me (obviously)...lanyards just make drawing deep carry knives that much easier.

Elmax or M390?

The 'before it's too late' caught my attention. When is it too late to preorder? I've been fence-sitting, but think I am going to have to have this one (the CF in M390) and don't want to miss out.

No first hand experience with ZT, then I bought a used, modded 0550. Now it's the one that sits in my pocket most days. That was enough motivation for me to preorder the 0562 CF. That, the steel, the similarities to the XM-18, etc. I could go on, but I'll spare all of you.

I'm new to the preorder thing. I did a 0562, I'm in construction and I feel the polished m390 wouldn't look like that for long, and more than likely I'd never carry it. Anyways as far as being too late, what I've heard from here is that a lot of the stores over sell the preorders, and they fulfill them in the order they were recieved. So they say you preorder from store X, who sold preorders for 500 knives but got 250. But store Y only sold 150 preorders, and got 250 knives, so they have 100 knives they just put up for sale. The numbers are random, I have no idea what they really are just using those to explain the way I understand what I've read. When I asked about pre-ordering that's what I got for answers, at least how I understood it. Some guys said they don't preorder, just stay super vigilant and find one for sale under the store Y scenario from above. But I pre-ordered from gpknives.com about a month ago. Hope that answered something.
