From Eagle View, on the High Sierra Trail, just out of Crescent Meadow, Sequoia NP:

And looking the other way, toward the San Joaquin Valley (this was last November, and the normal winter fog was covering the valley):

Mountainman38 - The descent from the summit of Sawtooth would have been quite interesting if they did it all in the dark. The summit is Class 3, and all the way down to Sawtooth Pass it is Class 2 with a lot of loose gravel and sand. I have done the trail from Mineral King to Monarch Lake in the dark several times, but I had a headlamp.

I took this picture today on my way home from our shooting trip. This is one of the last views looking down on the San Joaquin Valley from the lower part of the foothills. It's pretty dry - the last real rain was in February, and it has been staying steady at 95-109 for the last month, with low humidity. In contrast, the valley is 400 miles of peach, nectarine, plum, grape, citrus, walnut, almond, pistachio, grape, tomatoes, etc, etc.

Yeah, that looks VERY familiar. I grew up in Placerville, so those dry hills and grass are what I saw every summer. Plus star thistle (which I see in front of the fence), poison oak, etc.

Now that I live near the canadian border, when the temperature hits 80° it's oppressive. Last night it got down to 41° -- now that's more like it!

Thanks for all the great pictures of the Sequoia and Mineral King area. Brings back lots of good memories.

Have you been up to Buck Rock? Moro Rock? Ishom Creek? Clough's cave? Be cool to see some pictures of those places, if you have any.

Photo taken with timer on top of Mt Mansfield during my end-to-end of the Long Trail last August.

lambertiana, hola

Nothing special amigo. It's just a random field for lunch above a private shoot, Sussex - England. They don't mind me there provided I don't take their birds, and their spaniels aren't interested in rabbits. I have a roam around there every so often, sometimes just for an afternoon, sometimes for a day or two.

Since most of last week was 108-110 around here, maybe this picture from a scout campout last February is appropriate. Lodgepole, Sequoia NP.

Back in the day, I would spend Christmas in Yosemite Valley. 2o years ago, I would be the only one there. The hikes were amazing with nobody to interupt the solitude. Aaah memories...
