Did a quick overnight backpacking trip through some local mountains on the weekend... the snow was way deeper than we had anticipated up there! But it was still good fun. I'm sure some of you Canucks will recognize this area.

Morning of the first day. That snow covered mountain in the middle is our destination...

Here I am on the opposite side of that mountain, after many hours of hiking. The weather held up!

Later the next day, after a successful night in the snow. We got off that mountain and back into the lake valley just in time - as you can see we were just about out of light!

I also had a chance to try out my new Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe on this trip, and I must say it performs exceptionally well. Getting dry wood for a fire was no problem with that bad boy along for the ride. Unfortunately I didn't get any good pictures of it, sorry :p

Small pond just south of Charlotte Lake, Kings Canyon NP. This is away from any trails, and I saw absolutely no evidence of other people ever having been there.

I went up the ridge to the left in that picture, and here is looking back down:

And looking south from that ridgeline, across Bubbs Creek canyon toward the northern part of the Great Western Divide:

Wow, thanks for sharing. This is absolutely breath taking.

Not as epic as some, just getting this season going. Took the wife and a friends kids out for a weekend. Did some tent testing and tried out my new olympus heavy duty 8010 camera. REI Arete 3 and Black diamond vista 3. both did pretty good. We had storms and 40+ mph winds. At 6lbs I dont think either would be my choice for anything other than car camping.

Tools for the trip - jetboil, recon 1 and kbar in 12c27. When I go backpacking I take the raptor or pocket rocket. For a group the jetboil is awesome.

Heres my School/work EDC, compaired to my Wilderness EDC ....wish the second one was my REAL EDC, im sure everyone at school would welcome it, haha

A few pictures from last weekend's wanderings along the Bruce Trail, and particularly through the Singhampton Caves. The Caves were beautiful. It was my first time there since winter. They are still partially full of snow, and probably will be for a month or so.

Enjoy!
