The one knife you will never sell

This 60's Barlow, it was my grandfather's knife he used while working his entire life for the railroad.

Just today I received one of those imperial jackmaster Barlow's from a fellow forum member, and it is now another knife that I'll never sell
It has the exact same tang stamp to
( I looked it up and they used it on pocket knives from '56-'88 )

Large 21 insingo, aptly named Elizabenza (many a rolled eye from my wife [emoji38]) a wedding anniversary present from her, will be passed on to my child one day. Until then it will remain in my possession and will never be sold!

There are a few with sentimental attachments and no money could pry them from me. As far as ones I bought for myself the one I absolutely won't get rid of is a Gerber Sportsman 2 "V" steel (vascowear steel, father of Cruwear/PD#1/Z wear). I tried to get one of those from the middle 80's when I encountered some ones and saw the steel perform. It took me until 2011 or so to find one for me and that took some doing. Remember I was looking mostly before E bay so they were mostly "you want a what"" what steel?" at dealers, gun and knife shows, etc.

I finally had to get one from a dealer I knew that worked the local show circut. Her husband had passed away and her and her daughters continued the family business. She knew me as another knife dealer which I was at the time so she agreed to sell me her husbands personal one at dealer price. That was one of the few times I demanded to pay more than the asking price. The catch was I had to wait until the next gun show 3 months later. She came through.

I always try to give her some business when I can. I've bought many, many knives from her business over the last 3 decades but only one took me 25 years and a whole lot of looking and asking and researching.

Sal G. had a knife like the one I was looking for and that is one of the reasons he was willing to make a run of Cruwear. I think Sal is as bad a knife/steel/performance person as any of us. Fortunate for us he is too . Look at the selection of steels and high tech knives he has brought to the market over the years. The famous Spyderco " sprint" runs have influenced the market and inspired other manufacturers to bring out newer and sexier models.

With me it was carbon or stainless steel until I ran across that Gerber in the 80's. That was a large milestone for me.

i will NEVER sell my magnus axelson "the trebuchet" knife-in-a-stand. it took me a year to convince magnus to make it for me - and it goes to my death bed with me!!! you can see a photo of it on magnus's website!...jzs

I will never sell any of my knives. I'll give one away if I don't like it, or if I like it and have an extra (or can get a replacement).
I gave my owner a SpiderCo Byrd Cara Cara 2 I didn't like. (They sent one with a partially serrated blade. I loathe serrations - they are a deal killer for me. Yes, I ordered the plain edge version.)
I gave my nephew/God Son an Ulster 'Official Boy Scouts' knife with a nice belt pouch, I won in a GAW, for his first fancy "go to Sunday meetin'" knife, and a Buck 389 Canoe for his "every day beater" knife.

I like the 389 canoe, had an extra. I also bought another Ulster BSA knife (not as nice as his) so I'd have one too. He likes to have some of the same outdoors tools I do. (also got him a Cold Steel blowgun, and a M48 pistol crossbow, to match mine)

My Sebenza 21 with Box Elder Burl. It was made on my parents 55th Wedding Anniversary! And yes I use her. I'm getting ready to loose both my parents so now I want to locate a Small Sebenza 21 with Micarta inlay and an Insingo blade with a birth date of either 10-23 or 2-22 as they are their birthdays.

Here's the web image when I purchased her.

I have a few that are special, but if I had to part with all of my knives with the exception of one it would be my '08 soldier (my daughters birth year, and a very functional and practical knife).

My great-uncle gave me a knife from my great-grandpa and said it was his boy scouts knife. After I did some research though it turns out its Kutmaster Girl Scout knife from pre 1950s. I think it must have been my great-grandmas that he kept after she died. I will never let that leave my possession, its just one of those family heritage knives. Also, a case sodbuster given to me by my uncle for helping him build his barn. Im big on sentimental knives I suppose.

Of all my knives, the only one I will never sell is my grandfathers pen knife - he bought it for a nickel when he was 8 years old & carried it every day of his life. Doesn't look like much until you know the story behind it...

Nice knife. I like that pattern as well. One question how do you date the SAK

This old Barlow was my first pocket knife. My grandfather gave it to me for helping him with some fencing. That was over 50 years ago. I had Glennbad put some new stag handles on it. '

That's awesome! Small world.

I think we all have that one knife that has too much sentimental value. Like our first pocket knife, or one that was passed down from grandpa. Most of those really don't have much value otherwise. SO out of the knives that I have bought, I would have to say I would not get rid of my plain Jane small Sebenza.

This one.
