The Oregon Knife Show for 2016!

Dang it! If I knew that you guys were also here, I would have tried to get you all on the guest list for the burlesque show at Luckys on Sunday. (they had me booked after the knife show for some sideshow stuff.)

Patience, Ed, Patience!! When I get home there will be more pictures!

Meantime, I know Dave (Knowtracks) had car trouble, so he will be delayed also.
There will be more pictures!!

I was having so much fun ogling knives and chatting with everyone that I really failed to take nearly as many photos as I wanted to. It just slipped my mind. I did get these two however:

Gunstockjack and Knowtracks

Abbydaddy and Abby (we were sitting with Bill Harsey, but the person who kindly took the photo focused on my daughter and I)

Got home today, tired but not without goodies! Take a gander.:eek::eek:

The 2016 OKCA club knife:

Roy Humenick's special factory order 2016 American Whittler:

I liked the 'character' streak in the grain on both sides of this knife:

Very thin for a large knife:

I ordered a #98 American Whittler in Snakewood from Roy Humenick's. I hope it looks as good as your's does Barry....that is a fine whittler my man.

My wife and I got a chance to get away from the farm on Sunday; we had been regular attendees at the OKCA show for years, but since moving closer to Eugene we oddly hadn't made it back. Proximity, it seems, breeds contempt (or at least complacency.) This has been especially troubling since my conversion to traditionals happened in just these last few years!

We got to meet Waynorth, Gunstockjack and Knowtracks as well as Chris from GEC. My wife, who has at least as many knives as I do, just had to get one from Chris. I wandered away as they girl-chatted about whatever it is girls chat about at a knife show, and when I came back my wife had a new knife. Again. (I envy those of you whose wives aren't into knives; you actually save money that way, as you don't need to buy doubles of everything. This is especially true if your wife has good taste in knives.)

I was looking for a couple of very specific things: a Case Sowbelly Stockman in CV and a Queen-made Winchester 4-blade Sowbelly. Didn't see either one, and though I can understand the Winchester being absent (they are a little uncommon) I was surprised at the lack of Case examples. I did manage to snag a decent deal on a Case medium stockman in CV, and that will have to do for a while. (This is my first Case, and the quality doesn't compare to the "black box" Queen-made Winchesters — let alone anything from GEC. I can see that I'm in no danger of becoming a Case aficionado.)

Of course I put in my request for a GEC sowbelly to anyone who would listen. I remain hopeful.

Not to sidetrack this thread, but I think you will be pleased with the quality of the Case Sowbelly Stockman.

Great photos Lloyd and Abbydaddy, very nice knives, Barry. I just got home late last night, stopped in BC for a couple of days. It was great to meet Charlie, Lloyd, Dave, Barry and Chris and also Dale and Ray from over on AAPK. I picked up a few nice Keen Kutters and have quite a few photos to post. However, it will take me a couple of days to get to those as I eventually have to get back to work this morning.

Nice to meet you too, Dan! I look forward to your KK pics!

Eugene, Oregon and the State of Oregon in general have other delights beside a great knife show, including the perfect place to try out a Texas Camp Knife!

Here's Dave (Knowtracks) after we polished off a couple of 12oz. Ribeyes!
The TCK makes a great steak knife!

The Oregon Coast mostly faces the open Pacific ocean. As a result rolling surf, and constant breeze is a given. Makes for some spectacular views, and some dramatic trees! And a good night's sleep at the right place!

Of course, the knives! Where else can you find such treasures, but Oregon!!

>The top knife is a Bruckmann, with "COAST" on the shield.
>Next is a shadow pen, made for Stan Shaw!! A subcontract by a famous cutler!!
>Then a W.R.Case, Bradford WWI sailor's knife (The only knife "used" in this group).
>A short-line Camillus Jack
>very rare Genuine Stag Schrade Cut Jack!
>Ultra-rare 4 1/4" Sheepfoot Schrade Cut!!
A few more to come later. . . . . . .

Dang! Charlie sneaked away from the table while I was busy and snapped up all those beauties before I had a chance! No fair Charlie!!!:rolleyes:;)

I did come up with this beauty though; a Jim Behring 'Alaskan' (my name for it) featuring an upswept bowie-style six inch blade and gorgeous musk ox handle. I've always been a sucker for Scagel style knives by Jim, Mike Malosh and others, and was really pleased to find this beauty. :D

25 Watchpocket Barlow is smaller than it appears in the photo. :o

Nice haul Charlie! I like the Schrade stag cut Jack, reminds me of my often carried 77 Yankee jack. It looks like you saw Cannon Beach, my wife and I visited there on our third anniversary. It was a foggy overcast day like that pic, thanks for sparking memories.

Someday I'll win the lottery, buy a ticket to Oregon and attend the show (I've always been attracted by the northwest of the US). Meanwhile, it's nice to see some pictures.
Charlie, all the new GEC offerings (Texas camp knife and whittler) mey not be my cup of tea...but the bottom two Schrade Cut jacks look gorgeous to me (and I'm not even a stag fan). You sure brought great knives to Eugene...but the ones you got there are better ;)

Charlie: I see you worked some more of your magic at the OKCC this year! What a great group of additions. I keep looking and re-looking and can't seem to stop. What great, historic and pristine examples of the cutler's art!!

Gorgeous photos/scans of surf and blades Charlie! That SF Schrade Cut is one spectacular vintage folder!! Even more impressive and striking in person--I was fortunate to handle it. Barry that "Alaskan" is beautiful and those Musk Ox handles are stunning! Wonderful photograph. All the knives bought or handled fleeting in comparison to the wonderful time spent with like minded friends--just priceless:) I have all my folder acquisitions I will try to get up tonight. Lloyd

Thanks again to ALL who posted additional pictures. Greatly appreciated!!
