The other ZT no one is talking about! ZT0456

Tried one at blade shop a couple of months ago. My thoughts:

Its made out of good materials but at 6.6 oz. its a fat over weight pig and to top it off you only get a 3.25 inch blade? Whats the point?

My Para2 only weighs 3.75 oz and you get a 3.44 inch blade. More blade and almost half the weight? Its not even close.

The 0456 was the one from the 2016 lineup I was most looking forward to, and it did not disappoint. It feels and handles great, and it looks fantastic. Both of the Sinkevich collaboration pieces this year are awesome.

It took to post 15 for me to find someone that agrees with me! Was starting to feel very alone on this one:eek:

Agreed. I think a knife weighing that much should have a little extra in both blade and handle length. Aesthetically, it's a great looking knife, just not one that really calls out to carry.

The 0456 looks nice, but I'm just burnt out on framelocks. I would like to see ZT incorporate some new lock types besides the frame/liner locks the use exclusively now. Maybe another G&G Hawk lock?

Something interesting about this knife is our scales show it at 6.2 ounces. Not sure that makes a difference to you guys concerned about weight.

I really want to like the 0456, and I do albeit Im a bit cautious. For the price, it is a bit smaller than I prefer. As of late, I mostly carry larger blades, 0560/0561. Occasionally Ill have the 0801/0801BW but I really want something a bit larger. I love the 0808 but same deal. Actually, make the 0808 closer to 4"...sorry, got a bit off track. The 0456 is not one Ill stop wanting, it'll wait until I can get one in hand.

Could you imagine a 0456 the size of.a 0301? Okay, maybe a bit too big but maybe not.

Another fear, it'll be too pretty to carry. Kinda like the 0808...

Weighs too much for the size. Blade shape looks like the tip broke off. Yet another frame lock. And I agree with those that said that the pivot is gaudy.

I love the blue hardware, but other than that i just do dig the looks of it. For the most part i do tend to prefer more slender clip point kind of knives, but still cant quite put my finger on why i dont like the looks. Not against chubbier knives. I also have liked everything sinkevich has put out until that one.
I think all of the new zt's are good designs, but just not my taste. Except the zt0452cf.

Those that have them, what do you think? Those that do not, what is stopping you from getting one?
I live in a suburban environment, and don't work with my hands, typically. I'm a light knife user (*ducks*) and also a man of short stature, so portability (weight, bulkiness) is of paramount importance. Though the design isn't quite as intriguing as the 0456, I have a 0551--which fulfills my ZT 'hard use folder' needs. And there simply are other knives I'd rather spend ~$240 on.

I considered this as my first ZT, but a couple of factors put me off of it.

First, it's a short and stubby knife. I've found my perfect short blade working folder, its the EnZo Birk 75. I've handled both knives and the Birk blows the 0456 out of the water. Better grip, a better blade shape (for me), and proven comfort in my hands.

Second, the color and aesthetics smack of a blatant attempt to replicate the Kizer Laconico Gemini. This isn't a bad approach, the Gemini is a beautiful knife. You can certainly do worse than trying to replicate the Kizer's success, but when we get down to brass tacks the ZT is simply a less attractive knife.

Finally, the price. On Zero Tolerance's website this knife is listed at $300. Even on the Exchange I haven't seen it for that much less. If I'm going to drop >$200 on a knife, I personally feel like I can do a lot better than the ZT 0456. Within ZT's own lineup I'd prefer the 0452CF to this knife based solely on looks. The value just isn't there for me, and for the cash I feel like I can get much better value for my money in other brands.

Not gonna lie I am absolutely stunned and shocked by the amount of dislike for this knife. I addressed the weight issue in my initial post but I am amazed at the number of people who find it awkward, ugly, to stubby and so on. I certainly respect and appreciate everyone's opinion, I am just shocked by it.

I have had this knife in my possession for 3 weeks. I have used it everyday and I personally am just blown away by it. I have big hands, 2XL gloves, and the knife fits perfect in my hand. I use this knife cutting up boxes, tape and other task every day and have not had to sharpen it one time and it will still shave hair on my arm. It is a good looking knife but that certainly should not keep people from wanting to use it. Mine is scratched up a little but still looks great.

Like I said, I very much respect everyone's opinion on here but I really hope as more people get their hands on the 0456, and use it, that some of those opinions will change.

It also looks even more awesome anodized!

Curious as to why you want use it?

I left one thing out. It's a dedicated flipper.
I know they're the current trend; but they aren't my preference. I like to be able to open my blade slowly, in a controlled manner, if I feel that is the appropriate option. That's actually what diminished my excitement about the entire 2016 lineup.
The weight of the 0456 doesn't phase me - if anything, it is a positive feature, along with the hand filling grip. I'm used to a fairly big knife that I can use comfortably. Sure - light, skinny knives are nice sometimes; and there's something to be said for having a slicey knife when you need one... but I carry a traditional, as well; so that's generally covered. (And I've usually got something else in my pack, if neither of the knives on me are quite right for the job.)

The market is flooded with TI flippers. After awhile mine get shelved for something else.

I absolutely love the 456 looks in pics. But decided I should wait until they land locally so I can touch and feel first before dropping the coin. In fact, this one was on top of my hit list order, followed by the 220, 804cf, & 450cf. Just a little under water cash wise right now, so could be a while before I'm able to land one anyway.

IMO this picture pretty much sums it all for me. They are almost the same length, the 0450CF may even have slightly longer blade length. I love hard use knife(hardcore Cold steel & ZT fan here), but efficiency is also important for me.

By the way, are the pivot screw and pocket slip made out of aluminum? I assumed so and this is another reason why i dont like this knife so much. If so this might be the first time i see ZT sacrifice strength on critical part for aesthetic. I have a weird habit of cranking my pivot all the way tight, so an AL screw is a big no for me. It's a paradox that ZT designed this knife to be stubby and harduse, yet choose to sacrifice strength like that...

To me it's a beautiful knife and, although I never held one, it looks like it would feel awesome in the hand.

The problem I see with the ZT0456 is the size. It's either too big or too small. I like knives that are bigger, and I especially love knives that are smaller than the ZT0456. I just think that 3.25" is in no man's land. If this was a sub 3" blade, I'd buy it and make it my EDC.

I don't like it. And I have nothing against stubby and chunky, this is my EDC:

As has been mentioned, the pivot is reminiscent of a Pimp My Ride car rim, very gaudy and off-putting IMO. Also the weight is an obvious issue.
