The other ZT no one is talking about! ZT0456

I love my 0456. Because of hefty handle I can cut easily wood on my hiking trips. It has razor sharp edge which holds well after multiple use. But for EDC I prefer my Spiderco Swysz Bowie, mainly b/c is lighter and in its own rights pleasure to use it. It is like to have two wives, love them equally he, he, he....

I love it. I love the lines of the Handle and the grind of the Blade. And of course the amazing 204P steel.

if it was s35vn steel I would already have one.

You prefer s35vn over cts204p? And to the point that you won't buy a knife in 204p?
I have nothing against s35vn; but I guess I'm in the other camp. If the 0095 was cts-204p, it would probably have been the one that came home with me.

I'd buy it if it is around half the weight.
Sold my 0562CF a fortnight ago due to the weight and also blade length.
If the 0456 is less than 5oz like my 0900, or better still, around 3+ oz like my XM-18 3", I'll be all over it.

I can see why someone would prefer S35VN over CTS204P. It takes less time and effort to maintain (or bring back) the edge of S35VN. When it comes to a lot of these "super steels", I find the arguments regarding superiority silly when you really boil it down to what work you are actually going to expose to the knife.

I like the looks of the 0456, but I am not thrilled with all metal scales. They tend to want to slip out of my hand, especially when wet (read: sweaty!). I don't know if the texturing on the 0456 would address this, but I've been burned by metal scales often enough that I usually just pass on knives that have metal scales on both sides.

Weight is certainly not the issue for me, I am currently carrying a ZT0909 - love it! I am puzzled by the weight posted on ZT's website, however. I have some really accurate scales that are dead on for everything else I have weighed, and they are showing my 0909 at 6.9 oz while ZT's own website lists it at 7.5oz?

Was doing some clean-up around the house this morning. Had a small mountain of boxes that needed to be turned more recycle-box friendly. While the thicker handles on the 0456 do take up more pocket space, it really helps if you're doing a lot of cutting. The wide flat ground blade zipped through the boxes efficiently, and the sheepsfoot tip made splitting the various tape that much easier.

The steel held up well too. After a few hundred linear feet of cutting various thicknesses of abrasive corrugated cardboard, it was still mostly able to make clean push cuts through copy paper. It would snag in a couple of places, but definitely still a usable edge.

Basically, what everyone else has already said...

I like the overall design, but it is too small and stubby for its weight. I can carry a ZT0560 that weighs less, yet packs much more blade length in a very robust package. The price is also a turn-off. I think this one is a miss for ZT, and I am usually a fan. An 0452CF has been my EDC for eight straight months.

I don't like the look of the pivot. I think it's the bright color combined with the design. It's too attention grabbing. Other than that the knife is nice looking.

I've never even considered buying this knife, as it's so far outside my preferred specs. It's at least twice as heavy as anything I'd carry regularly, and the blade's a little long for me as well. I also find the pivot and clip to be a bit garish. I don't find the flashy details that KAI likes to use attractive at all. Finally, I'm tired of flippers and really wish ZT would offer a basic thumbstud.

Just not one that ever got a second look, honestly. Weight, size, handle materials, lock, deployment method are all wrong for me. Looks like a decent knife for what it is, but when you slap a blurple Manix 2 down next to it? I know which way I would jump and which way I would recommend others.

While the thicker handles on the 0456 do take up more pocket space, it really helps if you're doing a lot of cutting.
Exactly - that's a big part of the reason the 0200kw has stated in my pocket for so long...it's comfortable in extended and "hard" use. (I did sand down the g10, though, to get it there)
That's also a big part of the reason that the 0456 came home with me instead of the 0095.

I just picked this one up from Whitty last week and swapped the clip for something a little prettier.
Got to work on the Edge Pro and cleaned up the factory grind with a 20 dps profile.
Excellent slicer and a tough knife that fits in my XL hand due to the large handle. For some it's a drawback but it fits me well.
For me it's a definite keeper.

I like the look but the weight & width to cutting edge ratio is out of balance to me and I will probably not try it out.

I absolutely love the 456 looks in pics. But decided I should wait until they land locally so I can touch and feel first before dropping the coin. In fact, this one was on top of my hit list order, followed by the 220, 804cf, & 450cf. Just a little under water cash wise right now, so could be a while before I'm able to land one anyway.

Well, crap! I didn't hold out long. [emoji16][emoji56]. Already started browsing my favorite online shops, and found one, and only one. Put it in the cart, then, whala, now out of stock.

With all the talk from those that are not enamored or in love with the 456, I was just drawn to it even more. Sure it's a weekend and I get to wait a few extra days. Don't know why I'm drawn to the odd models. Although, while I hear others say they think this design is odd, I just think pretty sexy looking. Next week I'll be adding to the reviews.

Sweet clip! Glad someone else agrees with me!

If I end up wanting a second, it will most likely be one of your anodized versions. Absolutely love those. The bronze or blue tones are very enticing.
