The Parliament Of The Olamic Owls Is Now In Session

For those of you that own a rainmaker, how do you like it for EDC? I currently carry a Spartan Harsey Folder (St Michael’s engraved)…which is not a small knife either.

It’s a big knife for sure, quite a bit larger than a SHF.

  • Overall Length: 9.75"
  • Blade Length: 4.25"
  • Blade Thickness: 0.15"
  • Blade Material: Bohler M390
  • Blade Style: Drop Point
  • Finish: Satin
  • Edge Type: Plain
  • Handle Length: 5.50"
  • Handle Thickness: 0.62"
  • Handle Material: Titanium
  • Color: Blue, Purple
  • Frame/Liner: Titanium
  • Weight: 5.73 oz.
  • User: Right Hand
  • Pocket Clip: Tip-Up
  • Knife Type: Manual
  • Opener: Flipper
  • Lock Type: Frame Lock
  • Brand: Olamic Cutlery
  • Model: Rainmaker
  • Country of Origin: USA

I don’t use a pocket clip on any of my knives, so it’s not an issue for me. Maybe Quiet Quiet can chime in.

EDITED TO ADD: If you’re considering a Rainmaker in full entropic, I know where a new one is setting for $479.00….instead of $745.00.

Please do not PM me with the location of said rainmaker. 😝

I normally don’t do a write up of a new knife but for this Swish I’m going to make an exception.

The Swish came into existence in April of 2017, a design/collaboration with Alexander Birykov. Mine is a first year (2017) with no Olamic Cutlery proprietary hardware, rather a T8 pivot screw, and T6 frame and lockbar screws. New versions of the Swish are using proprietary hardware.

Here’s a pic of the pivot screw:

I’m not sure if it could be much better. There is some lockbar sensitivity upon deployment, but once you realize it it’s a non-factor.

Waiting on some sun so I can try to capture the entropic finish on this one. The Rainmaker entropic is almost impossible to photograph to capture the finish.

My edc for over a year!

I have a ton of owl beads, started doing glow finishes especially in the eyes but put it on the backburner until I am ready to start a business in a few years.

I can put a couple somewhere in the classifieds if anyone wants one for basically cost plus pigment (latest generation glow in fancy colors is really expensive).

I live this knife. So much so that I kinda stopped looking for everything except something I just want to review and resell after.

Wayfarer 247 is pretty great. Some may prefer a different style knife and some may be equal, but no knife is better.

The Swish was the first model to catch my eye from Olamic. After looking at everything and considering all options over months, that's what I eventually went with. I really like the blade profile and length, it's very light in hand too. I still want to put together a Wayfarer Classic at some point.

I haven’t had my three, Wayfarer 247, Rainmaker, or Swish long enough to ascertain a favorite amongst them. I can find nothing not to like about any of them though. I will say however that the Wayfarer 247 is awful comfortable in hand.

The next one will be a Busker as I don’t own many small blades…but a pantload of larger blades.

A phone conversation with Eugene last evening cleared a few things up.

Alexander Birykov did indeed “help” with the creation of the knife. His contribution was merely a sketch of the Swish. That’s it.

Some enlightenment concerning the T8 pivot screw in lieu of proprietary hardware’. On knives sporting a pivot collar a T8 is used. Those without pivot collars are all proprietary hardware. It turns out the Swish utilizes both, those with proprietary hardware making up the bulk of Swishes.

The serial number of mine is S515 which Eugene said was made in March, 2021.

As we ended the call Eugene mentioned that they “may” be on their last batch of Swishes, but nevertheless, in time they’ll cease production of the Swish.

If you want one now would be the time to act.

It is amazing how many options you can get from Olamic. And the people you talk to over there (I mainly talk with Ilya) are very generous with their time.
I haven't used Simichrome on a lot of knives, but Simichrome polish is especially great on Olamic's M390, I can't believe I have used mine daily for almost a year and if I strop it with Simichrome every few days it stays shaving sharp. not hair popping - but good enough that I have yet to put it on the TSPROF sharpener. The only thing I don't use it for is opening packages because I have a PM2 in S110V in the kitchen for that.
It's crazy how much they hold their value on the secondary too. Kinda ruined me for constantly looking for a new EDC.
Has anyone heard anything about a non-locking slipjoint type they were talking about releasing? It's been a few months and I haven't heard anything much...

Can any of you Olamic Owls comment on the Kinetic finish? I'm specifically considering Kinetic Mist, but I gather the "Mist" is just the color portion of the finish name (no added color, in this case).

I've never handled a knife with this finish, or even a similar finish, nor seen one in person. It looks stellar in photos, but if you own one how is it in real life use and carry?

I have no idea what the "mist" refers to, but it looks like it's just a name for distressing it in line like patterns.

I don't know how many people have used an Olamic exclusively for over a year as their EDC, but I would be happy to answer any specific questions. I have not carried anything else except for 1-2 days where on formal occasions I carried something smaller.

Honestly I don't think that you are going to care about the wear pattern, it's going to be based on how you use it. I keep mine on the right side so my truck key and titanium money clip scratches it.
I have zero interest in carrying any other EDC, if you strop a couple times a week and keep it clean it will be the last knife you need.

It's not so much how it wears. More just whether it's as cool as it looks, or if it's just "fancy stonewashing." It looks like it has an interesting texture, and in photos the aesthetic is dynamite.

I'm chatting with them right now about a possible build, and when I asked for "dark stonewashed Kinetic" the Olamic rep said that was Kinetic Mist. I believe the other Kinetic options have colors associated with them, like Rainforest (green paired with purple/other), Sky (blue + something), etc.

I recently purchased a "Kinetic Ocean" Rainmaker in brown w/bronze accents off of the Exchange.

I think "Ocean" refers to the harpoon shaped blade and that "Kinetic" may refer to the light horizontal scoring of the handle along it's length on both sides, similar to the scoring that you can see on the green Wayfarer in Post #94 above.

If that's what they mean by "Kinetic," I can tell you that the scoring is so light that I can't even feel it. It may help a bit w/the grip but IMO it's purely cosmetic.

Here's a pic of it (w/a plain Wayfarer 247 that I also recently purchased) and you can barely make out the scoring on the surface.
