The Parliament Of The Olamic Owls Is Now In Session

That rosewood is beautiful.
Quick thought...polished bolster would give it an old barlow look.
You definitely don't want to detract from the burl.
Light blast will give it a grayish look on bolster.
I will keep thinking but your ideas are sound.
Of your two first one would be my choice.
Have you seen my new one for ideas?View attachment 1859176View attachment 1859177View attachment 1859178

That turned out really nice! Ilya actually just sent me a picture of that very block before I decided to go with wood from my own stash. :D

The pics from you and Bob Denman Bob Denman really helped me picture how the dark burl and bronze would look. I think I'm going to go with the first option I listed, except I'm going to change from standoffs to a backspacer. I'm not super keen on polished anything when it comes to modern knives. I work them too hard and they end up looking not so great, lol.

Great selections to chose from.
May I ask where you for selection?

I must've missed something, lol. Are you asking where I got the selection of stabilized mammoth tusk?

Sorry
Wanted to know source of burl.
I went matte on bolster for same reason as you. Hopefully will stand up to abuse better than gloss finish.
I do hope we helped you alittle.

Oh gotcha.

I think I picked the Desert Ironwood burl up in a trade.

The Honduran Rosewood Burl came from Central American Hardwoods. They have some crazy good looking wood. I picked this Honduran Rosewood Burl up from them too.

Yea, you guys were a great help! Thanks!

So I got the "Plain Jane" Purist for my Buddy, and it's a definite keeper!
I should be seeing some picture of mine today...

Question: Have any of you seen them do anything more than just a cross-stripe; with their wood and tooth inlays?

I wonder if they would do half wood on show side. Leaving a thin slice as a liner under wood.

I'm puzzled that I've been and Olamic owner for more than a few years, have multiple knives, spend a lot of time here at BF, and yet only found this thread recently. I tried taking a family portrait the other day for posting here, but was unhappy with the results, so will just post my most recent acquisition for now, with a head nod to our friend Rufus1949 Rufus1949 .
