The Puukko

Second batch of my Nordic series.
With the stained birch and brass viroles, I am going for an early XXth century style

(I hope my english makes sens)

Blades, brass and birch are all stellar ! Beautiful work.

A quick strop of the vaarinpuukko before heading out to feed horses.

I like showing off how Roselli used to peen the tang. I bought this in about '94 when the deluxe knife with reindeer fur sheath was only about $75! For farm work I usually wear it in a sheath I picked up online.

Rauhallista joulua to all!

Roselli prices have skyrocketed out of hands for some of the higher end models. They probably can ask that if they have foreign customers mostly. Still pretty awesome company because they do pretty much everything in house from forging to assembly.. and that costs a lot here.

Ok so this is not a puukko :)

Non stabilized handles? My favorite.

Doing a good job with the dye, I wonder what your process is. Maybe a soak in a boiled linseed oil and leather dye combo?

Love the finish.

Non stabilized yes :)
It's a dye of my making, long soak, like a day or two. Then boiled linseed oil.

Yeah, something about those longer soaks really does amazing things to the grain. Pasi used to do 24 hour boiled linseed oil soaks, and some of the prettier handles I've seen were Wanta Forge handles (24 hour soak in a dye/blo mixture).

Beautiful work!
