I wish that knife was mine, and would rather own and use it for $25 than any of the thick bladed, dog poop textured, over-hyped, bafflingly overpriced knives that one finds all over in places such as Instagram.

Funny you mention poop when posting a pic of this knife. [emoji846]

I can see both sides here and God bless these guys for being productive but I'm not really into the halfway sharpened.. retro, caveman/aboriginal style knife as pictured.

To those above saying that people shouldn't be poking fun or guffawing about the quality of these knives, I would reply that people have been making lighthearted fun of bad things for thousands of years, probably the whole of human history, in fact. Over 2,400 years ago, Aristophanes was making fun of the bad work of fellow poets and philosophers in his plays. There is a whole Museum of Bad Art and a fascination with "things that suck." There is a giant list of films considered the worst ever on Wikipedia. And I have a great book of the worst verse in history called Pegasus Descending. As someone already mentioned above, this botched restoration attempt on a Spanish fresco was news around the world for quite a while.

The above are just some examples of people's enduring fascination with things that are bad. That fascination is so ubiquitous that it will likely persist so long as people (1) continue to value distinctions between good and bad things in art and craft, and (2) have a sense of humor. I see nothing wrong with it, so long as no one gets hurt.

lol sam... I'll get to work! (on pooping)

freedom of speech is a bitch! I guess it is a uhm, sign of character that they aren't embaressed to show those... other than that.

=====>>> I'm curious WHY the Jacobs need to make a post as they did. It does seem very strange and defensive. Is China stealing their designs? muahah

It's like handing out ribbons to all the kids that failed... But these are grown men.. and I'm not going to say more.

Some people are overly nice here. Good for them :)

Some people are overly nice here.

True, and that's not good or bad, while neither is being an overt ahole. But, what I do find, disappointing( guess would be the word) is that they have made a few "descent" blades, so their not incapable of making a "descent" knife, they just "choose" to slop these things together . The first two in the gallery (whatever) could be passable as descent useable knives. I'm sorry, but if you've been doing this 13-15 yrs and this is the best you can do, you should find a new profession/hobby imo. But, guess people are buying them, mlre power tk ya, I've seen people own some very crude looking/performing knives over the years so can believe people would buy them. I can't believe the steel is heated correctly and feels descent to use for much of anything, for most of the blades I've seen at the site. As to whether they are made overseas or not, idk, if they were it wouldn't surprise me. As others have said probably wouldn't take one for free. Cept maybe to test it. Idk. Personally think it's better to take the time to process good quality, than make a bunch of junk quantity, especially when comes to knives. I'm sorry, but I hate janky knives. One of the few things in life I strive for as much perfection as possible, is knives. Prison shanks have more appeal to me than these, you guys should attempt to create some masterpieces, instead of the janky junk.

Or maybe you could make some interesting art jewelry?

^ That was without a doubt, one of thee more ridiculously idiotic things, I've read since becoming a member here!

Well I thought comparing the character of an inanimate object like a knife with the character of a serial killer was idiotic in itself. But hey ho.

Some of the poster's here, should spend some time and look in a mirror. I personally think that it's a wonderful thing; a father and a son enjoying/sharing their passion together. I'm quite certain that they don't have a moment of regret, would change a thing, or a knife...

I'd like to see how some of these bandwagon warrior's here would feel, if member's here were making these type of comment's about THEIR father, or THEIR brother, or their livelihood?!?!

I agree.

"decent"

I actually own one of these and for fun the other day I used it to baton through one of my Busse Combat Knives spine first! Incredible! I can't even believe it but this thing cuts like a space station! Pics to follow!!!!!!!!!

... it's called humor, sometimes black, sometimes different that is the joy of the world, everyone can take something good bad or indifferent out of about everything.

Thank you for pointing out my grammar flaws Rachel, from you stating my faults I have realized what I have done incorrectly and will improve on my grammar skills. If nobody would have been honest with me about what I have done wrong, I would have never known what I was doing was incorrect and never thought i needed to improve on my grammar. Knkw where I'm going with this? ;)

Sometimes, people need a "realization", "awakening", or something like that, if got a better word would love to hear it, there's? Probably a better one(s).

Ulf, Epiphany, " sudden moment of revaluation or insight". You're welcome.

PS: Your grammar seems okay......it's your typing and/or spellling that needs work

Paul

I agree that honest criticism is sometimes the only way to see one's flaws in order to improve. Unsolicited criticism, much like corrections of grammar, can sometimes really piss people off. :p

My point being: Many of us think they are comically fugly knives, but who asked us? After a while, it feels like piling on.

Ok well at least this man has been verified by a respected long time member of our forum in reference to the origin of his product. This is a good thing.. So why hasn't even ONE of the many Knife Retailers that sell Quartermaster Knives dropped in on Jared West's MYTHICAL Texas knife factory ? Surely we have many respected members like sheathmaker in the Austin area and NO ONE has set foot in it or even seen it ? When I inquired to a retailer about this , all I got was crickets ?

You mean the super-secret facility in Dripping Springs? Someone could drive by, but they wouldn't see anything on account of it's super-secret!

but who asked us? After a while, it feels like piling on.

Bit my tounge for quite awhile before posting here cause, yes, it doesn't even need to be said most are trash, but as said they have SHOWN that they can make a fairly "decent";) knife in a couple different examples( first two, maybe others in gallery), so don't understand why they choose to not do them right. Time, don't mind selling garbage to suckers? What?

I give up though, Epiphany was definitely the word I was looking for Paul. Thank yoj.

Why do I think the Jacobs are probably laughing about how easy it is to stir a pot here? What a road on this one ******10+ year old post out of the blue, to blades that make Pakistan look good, to life lessons, and now spelling and grammar lessons.

LOL  You can't make this stuff up.

I actually carry a full-sized space station with four live astronauts on board as my EDC. It cuts pretty badly and I had to order a custom sheath for 17 billion dollars. Not recommended.

It begs the question as D2 isn't the easiest to sharpen in turn is probably hard to grind. Maybe the OP should switch to some 1095.

If marketed properly say D2 Primitive Skinner w/handle inlays maybe that's the market for it then.

Hey Guys,

I really shouldn't comment here but I will anyways. When you post on a forum, especially when you claim you make "the best knife you will ever own", prepare to get criticism.

It's ok to criticize people, that's how you get better because every critique has some truth.

For example this was the first folder blade I ever ground about 3 months into knifemaking....I had some people critique it and I worked on getting better (since someone asked for people to post their first grinds)

And this is my latest knife grind about 2 years later.

The point is I think I got better, but that is through honest feedback and working on my skills. But I also never claimed to make the best knife someone will ever have.... that is a bold claim, I know that if I did make that claim I would very well make sure my grinds are perfect....

I don't know if I'd call them garbage. They aren't pretty, but $24 isn't a lot of money, either. Who knows, they may take a razor edge and skin a deer like nobodys business, and that's what the purchasers buy them for. If you're hunting to put meat in the fridge because you actually need it, one of these might be just the ticket. The more I look at these and think about them in terms of the design from a practical use standpoint (that being skinning game)..the more I kinda "get" what he's trying to do. If you're elbows deep in deer you aren't going to much care about pretty.
