The Route #66

A Calf Roper is always in my pocket these days. May also have an Alox or Possum Skinner, but one flavor or another 66 is always with me. Can’t beat it for an all-around pocket knife.

I've carried mine just enough to get a few pepper spots on the blades... both of my secondaries have very slight blade rub, which doesn't bother me in the least. The main pull is probably a 5+ or so, and the secondaries are less than that... perhaps a 4? My thumbnail isn't calibrated, so those are just guesses....
I'm not sure I could commit to carrying this every day, unless someone activated the "only one knife for life" button. It would definitely be a contender for that.. rides great in the pocket, with the rounded bolsters, and is close to perfect, size-wise..

I thought that was a Black Box Winchester at first glance.

Yes, it's dark. I think it's supposed to be Hemlock Green.... I don't see any green in it at all, though. Perhaps when it spends more time in pocket, and wears the bone down a little?

It's just a name, my Purple Sage doesn't seem to have any purple in it either.

Yes, that's odd, the way they do that. Yours looks more "burnt orange" than purple... I have a purple sage plant in my back yard, and the blooms on it are definitely light purple. I have a Beagle #18 in Spruce Green, and it has a definite green color to it.

Ya, they are kind of all over the place with their color names. I would have named mine Autumn Jigged bone.

Thank you. :)

Please post a picture here if you can. I'd love to see it.

I might do that JohnDF. If no one minds a phone pic. :)

The knife might be worth a post of it's own. It wasn't a knife that I fell in love with immediately. Kind of funny how that seems to happen to me.

nice... unusual jigging on that one..... I kinda like it. Does that style jigging have a name?

It probably does, but I don’t know what it might be. It was the standard for the Tidioute bone I think. Good feel and grip. Even though smooth covers like linen micarta and ebony look really fine, I have come to appreciate covers with more traction.

Yes, I like the feel of jigged bone, myself... my Northfield jigging is very uniform in pattern, much like SteveC's, except on mine, it looks like they raised the jigging fixture/head/however they do it, on the last 1/3 of the handle, and the angled jigs are almost non-existent. It's that way on both sides of the knife...
... definitely gives it character...:D

My Northfield is patterned like yours, smoothed near the bolsters of course. I like your variation. You know an actual person made your knife.

Hornetguy, although it doesn't really describe the jigging, that cover was called antique autumn jigged bone.

Really? That certainly matches the color better, but the tube says Hemlock Green. Perhaps someone sent me the wrong tube? That would answer a lot of questions.
SteveC's looks just like mine, color wise... wonder what his tube says?

edit:..... or, were you talking about Mayonardo's knife? Wouldn't be the first time I mis-understood a post....:oops:

Sorry, I should have specified, yes it was Mayonardo's post with the corset shield that you asked about.

Yours is Hemlock Green, Mayonardo's is Antique Autumn.
*edit: Jeff beat me to it.

Got it.... either way, mine is a user... These are nice knives.
Funny how tastes change... I used to have no interest in the stockman pattern. I was more into trappers. Now I have a horn MooreMaker, two medium Case stags, this #66, and an #82 in stag.... I have a "plethora" of stockmen... I've been carrying this 66 for the past few days, and I can see how it could become habit forming.
