The Sardinian connection.

I had 2 traditional from Corsica one I sold the other I kept.
They are more basic and simple and I love them for that.

CORSICAN CURNICCIOLLO POCKET KNIFE the vendetta isnt really traditional this one is.

I have one as well, in sheep horn, VERY rustic, but authentic. Would love to see yours, although I'm afraid that the French threads would not be appropriate. If you post it somewhere else, I would love to see it. Maybe in one of the friction folder threads?

Thanks I had a matching set of 3, I was allowed to choose the best ones.

That's the last one the others I sold some time ago.

Sometimes I realy hate UK laws on this.

I did see some that where a 1,000 Euros, the same in Corsica.
Are you saying you were forced by the govt to sell some of your knives?

I love the idea of a resolza! The resolza along with the laguiole is among the best looking of folding traditional knife designs.

Unfortunately I have to admit that I do not much like friction folders. I don't care for how alive they are. Pity really, because I would really love to add one with a pink horn handle.
I find your comment very interesting! I had not thought of friction folders in the sense of being alive, but I have experienced the changes in stiffness of opening and closing. Alive really is the most succinct manner of describing a friction folder!

Personally, I love them and am especially drawn to the very basic primitive versions. The Resolza, to me, is more of the pinnacle. A fine art version. Beauty and elegance; perfection: alive. Thank you for your comment. I will always remember friction folders in this way from now on.

Hello ,

Johnnythefox Johnnythefox , I don't know the maker you're talking about. You have to know that pro and non pro there are around 2000 knife maker on this island. Of course the level and type of production is very variable. Some of them forge their blade, some not, some make the whole knife some buy their blades. They perfectly know the touristic demand. Most of the tourists don't want to pay an high price. So they produce what they can sell.
But the masters, who are not all professional forge all types of steel, damascus and san maï. To my opinion you can't find one of their knives under 160€/$ . But when you know that it takes17/18h to make a resolza is it really expensive ?

kamagong kamagong : Who has said you MUST have a friction on your resolza ? 😁
Somebody like Giuseppe Galante can make you a slip joint resolza with the highest level you can fin in the US.
He's a really great guy who live not far where I spend my holidays.

Cheers ,

Thank you JM. But I wonder, is a resolza that is not a friction folder still a resolza?

That's a philosophical question Christian 😂
But what is a traditional knife ?
I'm sure that if you would have seen a Laguiole made before 1950 you would have found it sooo badly made that you would have not buy it for 2$.
But for a peasant of this time 2$ was a lot and a pocket cutting tool was a "resolza", a resource for him.
The jewel-knives you collect were very rare and those who were rich enough to buy them were not those who used them the more.

Tradition is in permanent renewal and that's why you can find such perfect knives as Laguiole or Pattadese which have been perfected since their appearance.

Cheers

Beautiful knife Jean-Marc. What's the size of the knife?

Whose slipjoint resolza do you prefer? Galante's or Serra's?
Well .. both of them are, to my opinion , at the top level. May be Robert Serra can do think totally crazy and economically illogical, as making the screws himself in titanium. But he produces a very little number of knives every years so it's difficult to order him a knife. It's much more easy with Giuseppe Galante .

Hold one in your hand and you will be hooked.

I get up to the Bay occasionally...you could see mine. I have two from Steri.

That makes that Serra gift from you all the more precious, J-M!! My favorite Sardinian knife!!
