so...

i want a bench wire whele and a buffer...

harbor freight? other?

speak to me obei wan!

i have a lot of steel to derust soon

and maybe some of that will be electrolysis tank (outside, warm days)

but some will be by 00 scrubby steel, and 3M pads, and sandpaper, and stone, and oil...

a brown patina is fine, rust is not.

there's also that cool "rust converter" stuff. some of those have plasticizers. some don't. it's ALMOST like parkerizing for hte poor man.

I am certainly NOT Obi-Wan, but HF should do the trick, or the Ryobi 6" at the Despot....Then again, there's always the old standby Naval Jelly. Works great, easy to use....and less hell on the breathing sacs than iron oxide dust spraying off a wire wheel.

Blasting cabinet sounds like more fun than the scrubbies LOL

Blasting cabinet is the first "tool" i buy once i get moved... Luckily pops has a few air compressors so thats one less purchase to make ;)

Uh, you did check out where Fairbanks is located and it's winter weather? from wikipedia....

Fairbanks is the largest city in the Interior region of Alaska, ..... ---Location "OK", I guess.

Fairbanks is commonly known as America's coldest city. uh - uh, not this Texan!!!

Average winter low temperatures range from −15 to −25 °F (−26 to −32 °C), but extremes can range from −60 to −75 °F (−51 to −59 °C). ---- And not only NO, but HELL NO.:eek::eek:

I guess the upside is that there can't be too many planes every day. Probably only a 2 hour work day because the other 22 are spent thawing out. :D

Just wear a coat you pansy. :p Anchorage would be preferable for a few reasons, and Juneau doesn't get as cold, but Fairbanks has roads and I would like to be able to go places without having to fly or spend two days on a ferry.

Though I might have to sell my vehicles and buy another truck up there just so I don't have to spend so much time moving up there in the first place. Just the ferry ride from Bellingham, WA to Whittier, AK is 4 1/2 days and $550. I looked at cars on craigslist in Fairbanks and they go for a little more than down here but not more than I was expecting.

in most cases, it's just surface stuff, gloves, WD40, and some steel wool should do the trick fast enough...

a media cabinet would be boss... but at the risk of removing or pitting materials without care...

i have mixed results with naval jelly, esp with pitty and actual rusty buildup...

with planes, you wanna remove the rust. pits aren't so bad, but you don't want them coming back, and filling them in with acrylic seems okay to me... but with fresh iron, stabilizing it, probably is a good thing to do... black iron is very stable, and paintable too.

many things to stabilize. many things to tune.

i have some "rails", i want to make some jibs to do box joints, and make boxes for the tools, for display, and for storage use.

need to come up with some ideas.

4.5 days on a ferry???
It's a long way......you have to travel along the coast of Canada because Alaska is so special they didn't want to be anywhere near to bordering the CONUS. I have friends that live in Bethel, AK....talk about nowhere - look that place up on a map.

in particular, the ultimate plane tray for stanley type [bailey type] #1s through 8...

i was thinking putting the #8 position top to bottom along the right edge of a rectangle, and then overall, the box would be wide enough to hold a #7, and the rest would nest in there.

same for chisels. some way to organize a lot of chisels by size, and type

not to mention lots of dumb stuff like gauges and rules and such...

ultimately, all of this should nest into a larger box/crate, carpenter's box supreme.

yeah. it'll be cool. need to source some nice maple ply and stuff. i got shit to make. so i can make shit...

new to me old book: making woodwork aids and devices : robert wearing : $4 :) :) :) :) :)

You should look on the internet. I heard they have LOTS of ideas.

seems like a blackhole :D

i'm more visual. need to see now. lots of ideas are just bad.

Looks like a great place to live if it wasnt so cold there.

Satellite images look great, population of 6000+ means it has 6 times more people than where i want to live, but so so much less than where im currently at. Plus lots of woods and water.... You say middle of nowhere, i say perfect besides the cold weather LOL

lots of ideas are just bad.

Depends on where you are standing!!

Pretty good read, a little old.... But interesting to me none the less..... May be NSFW depending on where you work... I seen a word that might be offensive to some one... And there is some religious talk in it as well.... But still a fun read about knives....

Awesome stuff!! Ill get in on this :) And now i have to look into that ka-bar fishing/fillet knife LOL

Watching a movie called "Mean Machine"... It has Jason Statham... Im a fan... Anyways I think the way they hold their "fights" is pretty awesome actually.... They set 2 guys down handcuffed together at a table and they trade punches until one persons head hits the table.... Size, speed, training and all takes a back seat to brute strength.. The hand you punch with being the handcuffed hand is genius too....

Never seen a "fight" like that but id pick that way over jumping in a ring with someone like Jackie Chan... who would do 20 backflips, punch me 12 times, jump all over the ring, kick me in the lip, mess up 8 easy English words, and then drop kick me out the room all in 6 seconds.... :D

Shes a very lucky lady. That could have gone much much worse for her. Like Busted orbital bone, missing teeth, broken nose bad

Yeah, the ferry doesn't move very fast and it's making stops the whole way. Imagine if your flight landed at every airport along the flight path. It would take less time to drive through Canada, but I think I have more guns than Canada so they probably wouldn't let me in with most of them.

Along the south coast doesn't get to cold, ocean currents and whatnot keep it decently warm.

Yea.... I definitely could do Alaska. My wife has some family up there. I'm itching for a chance to be able to make the trip North West.

In other news, it's shaping up to be a good day. There is nothing on the docket other than possibly running out to see my cousin (in-law) and his baby in the hospital (moved out of ICU and off of a no contact order).
Oh, and my wife is busy making monster cookies.
