JT and Todd are great resources, I have picked their brains a few times.

You should really toss a disclaimer out there, Dres.... This is not for the faint of heart. You never know what you'll find in either one of their heads.... Especially James's.

*shudder*

Disclaimers are for the weak!

And here's the Chax. Didn't get any pics of the 77.

I actually kinda like the old handle material.

amusing - the CS "trailmaster" to the right of the spot the machax was in is actually a Recon Scout (7.5" blade, not 9.5"...)
OTOH, that's a pretty decent looking Ek on the left end of the case.

Haha - Good point. It would probably be better for the kid to find it out the hard way.

Please, no...

Yeah, there was some wrong stuff around, there was a "sebenza" that looked like a terrible folding butter knife. I did like the Ek's but don't really know anything about them.

Ethan hates the old handle material iirc :D

that's one of the not very common semi-chrome ones. i'm not sure what to call it, as it's not the "super chrome" that they made earlier. i have a couple, they're kinda bronzy/coppery/goldy...

neat

Yeah it was pretty cool. I liked the thickness too. But the handle material was great imo.

I'm still not sure. I'm 15, so I don't really have a career planned yet. And if I put enough time into it to get good I would want to at least try to make it my living and if not that, my main source of income which I know wouldn't be very easy.

Any input JT or Todd?

Yeah I got all kinds of input if your asking...... Dresnor is right, dont go into it thinking you'll make a career out of it. It looks pretty easy to do. But if you've never done it before, and are considering it as a career path, you will fail. Like Dres says, forget about all that. See if you can hack it first. Be creative, have fun with it and enjoy it with no stress. Don't jump into to something with the stress of making a living off of it. Believe me, there's a big difference between making knives because you like to, and making knives because you have to. Even if you enjoy it, making knives you don't want to make for 12 to 16 hours a day burns you out real quick.

Id love to take you on as a a apprentice, frankly, I could use the help. however, I don't think the commute would be good for you. But if your serious about it. Take this piece of advice. Be original, be honest, and don't be afraid of hard work and doing things yourself. You'll never learn anything by letting others do your work for you. Don't fall in the trap of pedalling junk to call yourself a maker, because if you do, you wont be a maker very long. At least not a respected one. Take the time to learn. Im quite a ways away, but if I can help you in any way. I will.

Yeah, I know it's not easy. Like I said, for now I might work on fixing up a forge and getting an anvil and just trying to make some stuff. I appreciate the offer, too. Thanks for the advice.

Damn, that was satisfying.

I'd take you up on it in a second if I just lived closer. It was hard enough getting dad to haul me 1.5 hours to a knife show, much less to Tenesee. :D

Wouldn't a shotgun, some fireworks, and then running over it have been much more effective?

So, Noswad, and everyone else for that matter. I know I've been a little quiet lately. Saying how busy I've been i know is kinda cliche. But damn. Over 200 works in progress in the shop right now. Blade right around the corner, The gathering right around the corner, a couple of dealer orders, customer orders and still trying to carve out some time for new products and fun stuff. Im still in awe that im doing this for a living and feel very lucky and blessed to do it.

I wasnt gonna say a whole lot about it, but I pretty excited about next week, im gonna build on to my home shop. I looked at some other buildings, wasn't really what I'd call a financially sound decision at this time. I have free commercial space now at my buddies truck shop, but turns out when im out there I cant work undisturbed, always someone tapping on my shoulder. So, T.M.Hunt custom knives will be moving back home where it started. With the addition of a brand new bigger and better grinding room built on to the back. Breaking ground next week. Erik (1066Vik) Jerry D. and Murph will be allong for the ride swinging hammers and swiggin beers. It ought to be pretty cool. I'll probably have a thread on my subforum about it.
