Is there such a thing as a fixed blade based off of a Buck 110?

Before I comment, let me assure y'all... I firmly believe every human bean should own and carry a Buck 110 exclusively for at least a month. For reasons of history and nostalgia, if nothing else. It's important to remember that for many years, that design was the pinnacle of a high-quality, affordable, sturdy EDC general-purpose knife, used by lumberjacks and office geeks and hunters and bikers and survivalists and... etc. It's truly an icon and a landmark in our world.

Now then, if you mean the same overall dimensions... I've drawn that up at least six times... and never bothered actually making one. The problem is, you're dealing with a handle that's much bulkier and heavier than the blade, which is just the nature of a 60's-era lockback folder. However, it just doesn't make sense for a fixie with a blade that size.

Now if you wanted someone to essentially use the same style blade with a more proportional balance, without 17 pounds of brass weighing it down... heck yeah, that can certainly be done. But it's not gonna look (or feel) like an open 110. It's gonna look like a "bird and trout" knife... and be a whole lot lighter and handier, with the same or better cutting performance. ;)

Didn't work out to well for her, shes shitfaced!

Same here. Miss Angie got into the muscadine wine tonight, and she certainly deserves a break from all the stress she's under. But great googly moogly... frickin' amateur drinkers.

I've had a 110 since I was maybe 9 or 10. I love the knife and used it for hunting quite a bit, but it was a huge pain to clean animal blood, fat, guts, and fur out of. I was thinking a blade the same size and shape, but with lighter materials for the handle like you said. Maybe micarta bolsters and wood for the rest of the handle.

Supper was a hit! I liked the asparagus, but I think I over cooked it a bit, so I'll try again tomorrow.

So, my wife likes beer and often comes out to the shop and drinks a couple with me just so we can spend a little time together. She probably only drinks enough to get a good buzz maybe twice a year. Guess I've been spending to much time in the shop lately. She came out tonight and tried to hang. Didn't work out to well for her, shes shitfaced!. Guess that means we need some much deserved "US" time after Blade is over.......bless her heart.

Ah boy.... Reminds me of when Jesica came to hang out in the shop. She started walking a little sideways on the way back to the truck.

I hate the smell of Eezox... Really not a pleasant smell and it lingers something fierce... But when it comes to cleaning oxidation off steel it works GREAT.

I have a piece of raw 52100 (.265" thick X 3" wide and 2 foot long) That i put away a couple months ago or so and i didnt bother oiling it up for some stupid reason before i put it away.... pulled it out a little bit ago to check it out and both sides were just covered in surface rust.

Started off just using a piece of sandpaper to get it off by hand and it was working just taking a while, so i got out a spray can of Eezox and sprayed it down real good and the redish brown color just oozing off. Took a sanding block and less than 5 minutes of work with that sanding block and now it looks as good or better than when i received it from Aldo. its nice and shiny..... And protected, so hopefully next time i pull it out it still looks this good.

But that smell is :barf:

I really want to vent some frustration, however, even the Snark is not the appropriate place for it.

There is always chat bro, ill sign in if you want to vent to someone LOL

Holy jeebus that is a huge chunk of 52100! Have fun shaping that :foot:

Oh no bud i wont be cutting on that bad boy LMAO Ill be sending that off to be made into my 2 handed chopper. I had to call Aldo and request that size as it wasnt listed on his website but i wanted that specific size. He was really easy to work with though and gave me what i consider a great price.

Im actually looking at some more steel right now to try and cut and shape like you did with a saw and files. Havent made up my mind if im going to go with 52100 on that yet though.

Well shoot... I can't seem to pm or e-mail tjswarbrick. Dude, shoot me an email at james(at)terrioknives(dot)com for your tracking number.

When my wife gets a little too tipsy i take advantage.... I sometimes encourage her to have another, and another, and another... Because i know later in the night the more she had the more ill get HAHA

Well unless she gets to the point of being sick of course. Then I still may take advantage im not even going to lie :D

Bahahah. I do the same. It's been a long time since my wife has gotten to that point. Christmas of 2013 was the last time lol.

Yea my wife was at the perfect point... Perfect for me anyway HA, just a few weeks ago.

Being honest though she can almost hold her liquor just as good as me really. Before we were married with kids we use to polish off quite a few bottles together. She can hold her own as far as im concerned.

I'm trying lambsquarter, a kind of weed that has powdery leaves, I'll post the results when I'm done. I usually don't have good luck with wild edibles, like the Dandelions, they were nasty, and the Stinging nettles, which made me throw up and sent me blundering threw the woods to go home, in the dark.

I have high hopes for this though.

MM,

You better be with someone who knows about the various flora and fauna in your area, like your dad, an outdoors kinda person, botanist, etc. If you're trying to eat all this crap by reading a book, you're gonna end up like Chris McCandless. That is to say, dead. He thought he could figure out plants from a book, too.

Not telling you what to do, that's your dad's job, but you are playing a dangerous game. I would say this same thing to any of the Scouts in my troop.

Doc
