Ruby (the kid's black lab) carried this up out of the woods and gently set it down on the porch. Yep, there's a new family member.

I thought you were busy wearing a mask?
So the kids were playing in the driveway and the boy asked me to make him a wooden sword / knife. I have a giant pieces of 3/8 inch plyboard that I started cutting out some the designs I posted the other day. Then I used some of the trimming pieces to add to each side of the cut out for scales and used wood glue to attach it. Then I used the belt sander to grind it all down nicely. I really like the recurve. The skinner's blade is a little too fat for my likings, I will reshape it later. I still have a big enough piece should I get ambitious enough to try the bigger sword.

on an unrelated note - this is what I spent my day making:
slat bed that fits a queen sized mattress - inside corners are reinforced with 4" steel hinges for easy take-down, legs are pinned in place with antler tips driven through partially occluded 1/2" holes.

chest is 18"tall, 13 1/2" wide, and 36" long - held together with cut nails and glue. "Hinges" are leather scraps held on with contact cement and then sewn with a harness stitch.

chest needs a second coat of poly, bed needs the legs trued up, edges relieved/rounded, then stain and seal.
thinking about doing a coffee or sumac stain, but will most likely end up coating it with the same stain as the chest.
thanks for looking.

Of course you explained to the girls how tender that backstrap will be.
Thanks WW. Fact of the matter is, the difference between last year and this year is I will actually be working. Knife play isnt for fun anymore. I just quite my job of 20 years, and im heading to Florida after the blade show for a week. So, Lol, im hoping on clearing the trip to be able to get home after the the week and a half. I say Lol, cause ive learned over the last 10 years of my life the less serious I take myself, the more relaxed I am. But, when the laughs stop, reality is, Im not self employed. No big deal, a lot of people are, just gotta find my grove.
.
I'm not sure I'm weird enough to hang out in this crowd...
