Holy crap! I just realized I'm over 2000 posts. I'll have to put together a GAW soon.

Thanks!
What's for breakfast? I'm doing breakfast tacos with some bbq brisket left over from yesterday.

Wow, I take a couple of days of to work in the shop and you guys are already 13 pages in a new snark. Hadn't had time to read it all but it looks like I'm missin quite a party......... aside from that, gotta "whatcha think" question for you all. Besides the sheath and bone beaded lanyard I finished up a little hawk for Blade show today. I was really excited about the peice of wood I cut out for it. Turns out it does have awesome grain in on part but next to none in the bolster area. Dont know how I feel about it. Do I cut it off and try another piece? Just strikes me wrong.

Holy crap, that's breathtaking!
What kind of wood is that?!
That texture on the metal looks amazing!

Thanks, the wood is curly maple. Never had a piece quite turn out like this one. It has very tight grain at the bottom of the handle and just about none at the top. Kinda disappointed in it. I get almost all of my wood from traditional muzzle loader gun makers. Large blocks that are good for knives. But not big enough for gun stocks. Its hard to judge a really good piece and you never know exactly how it's gonna turn out until you have it on the piece and finish it out.

I think the differential patern in the wood makes it look better!
I'd love to learn to make my own handles fro my knives, might teach mylsef one day.

Todd, I think the wood on that handle looks great and I don't think you should touch it. The inconsistent grain might even make it look better.

Speaking of wood, I need to get some grip inserts for my Ruger GP100 with the old style grips. Not sure if anyone is familiar but IIRC they are called Lett grips after the manufacturer and they are one-piece rubber with wood inlays on both sides. Here's a pic.

To me they look great and feel awesome. The panels in mine are cracked but there was a fellow a while back that made custom inserts out of several varieties of wood. He even made some that were made to look like reclaimed wood with small cuts and nail holes in them. He fell ill for a while but I don't know with what, something serious but I don't know if it was something terminal or just a bad bout of pneumonia or something like that. Gonna have to go look him up and see if he's back in business or not.

Oh man.... I don't know about you Todd, but I suddenly want some New Albanian brew. Maybe Wee Foot, Nut Brown Ale or even some Hoptimus. Maybe the new guy could hook us up. :D

Ifn y'all are in the area and I'm available or on the off chance of meeting at a gathering one day I'll buy you both a round. I don't touch the glorious brew anymore so it would be nice to buy a round for someone.

Was that the guy selling them on tfl? I think he did them for the sp101 too. I don't spend much time on there anymore, so I have no idea if he is still around or not. Good luck with the search.

I don't know if he was on TFL or not, I found him on a ruger specific forum. I haven't been by TFL in a while either.

Ugh, what a weekend. Ending up driving about 20 hours round trip looking for some new climbing cliffs in Northern Ontario. Got the truck stuck in a bog and spent about about five hours getting out. Got home around midnight last night. Still tired.

Sorry to hear about your luck G.

This morning has been a good morning. Took the boy to pre-school, and went to a local hardware store for paint (doing the bathroom) and a set of micro bits. Got the torquex bits I needed to disassemble and clean my folders (I then re-assisted my 0350). Then I touched them up and stropped on clay paper. Lightly oiled and stropped the BK2. Now I am snuggling my little girl while she watches Dora and I serf the BF.

I need to start reloading, or at least start buying ammo by the case. Just spent $95 on 250 rounds of various handgun ammo, which is only enough for one trip to the range. This craziness with .22 ammo needs to stop.

My brothers in-law gave me an old press and dies for my 9mm. I just need to get a scale and powder measure and I'm set.

I had a crack at some .22 a little while ago but I didn't have the cash :(. The wife would of shot me if I came home with a box. I wanted to buy them all just because lol

8880 rounds of .22 for (with tax) close to $500 :D

I don't have a wife so I probably would have done it. I did find a website that had standard velocity CCI for $5/50 rounds. Might have to order a case.

That is a beautiful piece, Todd. The light and dark "blocks" make it look even nicer, imho.

G$<3 you don't have a winch on the Toyota? We're you able to find some good climbing spots?

No winch on this trip. Was not expecting to get into any trouble. We did however manage to find a new cliff that's over 2 km long and over 150 m tall. I guess it was worth it...

Sorry to hear about your luck G.

Sound like a perfect morning!

I'm with the other guys, I think it looks great the way it is. On something that large, I don't feel the wood really needs to have perfect AAA figure on every square millimeter... and in fact it's more interesting to the eye with some "imperfections".

It's really just a matter of taste, of course. But frankly I think it would be a shame to tear it apart and start over...
