The Survive! Never Say Die! Chat Thread

Damn man sorry to hear. Gunner is laying with me now, the little crumb snatcher that he is. Can't imagine how that day is gonna be for me.

I was gonna come in here all excited with my new toys today but never mind that lol.
Thanks man. It's been pretty rough adjusting to it but it's easier now. Just keep Gunner happy and healthy and you'll be good! I really only regret not taking my dog on camping trips but she really wasn't made for hiking or strenuous work. I think the next pup will be a lab or a cattle dog for sure.

Standard knows we love him. Maybe some new toy pics will get his mind on good things?

Haha you read my mind! I love toys!

Had labs since I can remember. He's a phenomenal pup and I'm not saying it because he's mine. Every time someone meets him they comment on his training and his temperament.

Not sure if you guys are into this sort of thing but I had shoulder surgery earlier this year, as some here may know, and I just got cleared to go back to work recently so I figured I could go back to my most recent passion (before the surgery it was my most recent anyway)

They had a black lab driver cover today at dick's when I was picking up this new bag. Should've grabbed it!

Hmmmm.... where is the sharp end on those things?? :p

I have some good friends who are really into golf, they always talk about how much they love the challenge. I've tried a few times, but I think I'm a little too ADD to really enjoy it.

Glad you're getting healthy and strong, MoS!!!

Nice set of Knockers!
I tried playing a few times but just couldn't get into it. Probably a lack of patience and to much alcohol at the time.

I'm pretty diverse in my interest, Ill blame it on being a hobby whore...I got kinda lucky though, I get to share guns/camping/college sports with my dad and Golf/Pro sports with my father in law...win win

Those are some "sharp" looking clubs my bag is a mishmash of nike woods and taylor made irons..I'm about as good at golf as i am sharpening knives.

Moral of the ramble I need to get BETTER at my hobbies and stop adding different ones...

Thanks fellas :)

It's a rough game for sure and I'm usually very impatient but my buddy and I ALWAYS bring a 24pk of Yuengling so we have fun even when we shoot 110's

Redwood I'm the same way. I'm into EVERYTHING. Racing, hunting, fishing, golf, shooting, hiking, camping.. The list goes on.

It's hard to not want to do everything, but then you end up with "gear" for miles...I have taken to storing things in those garage style rubbermaid containers, my wife was kind enough to label them for me.

I have an entire bedroom, basement, and a garage full of gear bro..

My wife thinks I'm nuts for having the few hobbies I got. Hunting, fishing, and camping. I had a truck till the tiny_toothpick came along. Money was more important than a hot rod. There's time for another one. I'm thankful they participate in my hobbies, there's never enough time spent with family.

Okay has anyone ever heard of Dan Harrison the knife maker? He does some beautiful bowie knives/ hunters/ customs. My son and I meet the legend yesterday(he sold him a knife for a penny). He has been doing knives for just shy of 70 years. He has some fantastic work in his shop, which is literally right down the road. His website does his pieces in shop no justice. I will be buying one of his customs for my father next Friday. About ten years ago my dad had a knife that was handed down through many generations stolen. Just last week his truck was stolen, in front of a urgent care no less, and in side was a knife I bought him for getting his nursing degree.(not a user, just to put next to his degrees)I hope this will make up for all the loss this wonderful man has endured. I'll post some pictures of mine next to his.

Wow he does some amazing work and he must be a great guy to do that for your son! That Big Game Hunting knife just jumped out at me.
I hate to hear that his knives and truck had been stolen. Thieves are are scum and they deserve their hands cut off.

My dad told the cop in the first robbery I don't care a bout any if it. I just hope they cut there damn hand off with that knife. He took that one to heart. He had it since he was a young boy. The one I've picked is very similar. Even better it was hand made by a long time local blade smith.

That's pretty messed up and I hope the cut the hell out of themselves with it or fall on it. I still have my first knife that was given to me by my grandpa when I was 5 and it holds more value to me than any other tool I own.

Yea a lot of hand tools his father left him when he died was in that truck. I had finally saved up enough to get my 4.5 and a ladyfinger but I think it will be much better just seeing my dad smile. And yea the custom I picked him out is that much. (I almost stroked out!) But its the closest thing I've ever seen to the one that was handed down through our family.

Its d2, I'm curious of its properties. I've never had a blade in d2 but heard a lot of good. A guy I work with on occasions makes large Bowie's and "western" style knives. (Great work too BTW, just wanted the same maker on mine and his knives really.) He uses d2 as well and swears by it. We shall see.

D2 is a pain to sharpen, very very hard to strop it to get it sharp, and can be brittle. It's a decent steel though. Usually doesn't take a super polish on the edge but once you get a good edge on it it'll last a long time.

Tex, I'm really sorry to hear about your dad and all his stolen things. Very sad. I've had a few friends who have had valuables stolen right out of their vehicles. I know from experience (not near your dad's loss) that having something special stolen is a really weird and sad feeling. Something you cherished is just gone forever. It goes without saying that you're a pretty cool guy for getting him a brand new knife

Thanks silver.

And that's what I was afraid of. I'm hoping it won't be to terrible. He typically uses a steel. As a kid I remember he would get it rubbed out on a stone at the start of hunting season then use a steel the whole season. His previous knife was unknown carbon steel. It was so old it was bought with green stamps. (Idk if the younger group knows what that is.)
