The Survive! Never Say Die! Chat Thread

I had to be a sweetheart and leave a few comments.

I always try and write friendly reminders as to why people are being jackholes...but the fact that people seem incapable of READING astounds me and I am fighting every urge to tear them a new a-hole.....**breathe**

I just get tired of these people that don't understand what it takes to run a business. They probably punch a time card everyday and think their lives are so rough.

I currently punch a timecard (though now they are digital and have "apps") but dream of owning a knife or out door gear company...up until the point i read thoughtless crap online about how selfish people in the world can be and am reminded of the world of hurt I will find myself in... I tip a large hat to all of you on here running your own show, it takes a lot and I know you guys work hard at it.

On a 'light'er (<- see how i did that) note. I got me a Olight coming. 500 LM then tones down to 300 after a few minutes. The guy who told me bout them said they have copper, brass, aluminum, and titanium. I got the aluminum cause I'm a cheap skate. :D

right behind knives, I have been really into good ole flashlights lately, this sounds really intriguing, I look forward to seeing what you think of it!!

Crap I didn't mean to sound like a jerk.
I honestly miss having a start and end time at work but I can't stand the thought of working for someone because I'm a jerk and I'm always right. Haha!

A knife or outdoor gear business would be awesome!! You should do it if it's financially feasible. I'd buy from you.

haha standard do not worry, I was merely agreeing with you. I read something recently that you have to be scared to ever truly be brave. I think it takes a ton of bravery to start a company and I am currently not there. As someone on the other side of the fence I was completely agreeing with you. I think all the time how the young people at my work don't "get" how lucky they are and am frustrated how they seem to take things for granted. When I come on here and see more of the same...it just riles me up more.

I constantly talk about perspective, both here and in life. I will fully admit I make mistakes and do not always have a good perspective on things. An example, that is somewhat ironic given the OP's reference company, about patients and perspective:

I think its obvious that we like knives, both survive! and possibly other brands... I had always had an interest in a specific knife style from another well known company that also has a unique and at times frustrating business model. The knife I wanted was never for sale by them as it had been retired and was only available through the secondary market (too pricey) or "ganzas" which confused the hell out of me.... during one of these ganzas the knife I wanted was available and I tried for it and accidentally broke the "rules" of the ganza...wtf...this is silly...I just want to give you my money!!! I got angry and wrote a frustrated email deriding said business practices....sigh...I wish I could say this was years ago but it wasn't... I received a simple reply saying I had actually scored the knife I wanted (despite breaking the rules)...I was extremely embarrassed and wrote a profound apology.

Here is what this experience taught me: IT IS NOT MY COMPANY....let them do business however they want and don't complain and whine, buy or don't buy...Not to mention the fact that maybe their business model works for them! As long as no one is being scammed or faulty products produced, just read the fine print breath deeply and understand that if you want it done differently than do it yourself! I think this lesson was extremely useful to me and again I wish I could say it was from years past. On a happy note, that knife had a choil and was what finally pushed me over the edge into buying a 5.1!!! Which I will happily wait for, even if mine is the very last one delivered!

Hopefully this wasn't too long winded...

I have a feeling you aren't the type of person that clocks out when the whistle blows. We've all seen your pouch kits and your knife wall so I bet everything has to be done correctly or you lose your mind!
It's ok because I'm right there with ya!

The other part of your post was great! I bet you kicked yourself in the butt for that first email!

haha if you look at that picture, you can likely figure what the "mistress" looks like...I actually quite my first job out of college due to constantly being told 80% is good enough...blah...talk about jibberish!!!

I tried the gmail auto-delete feature, but it only works within 30 seconds and it took me at least 35 seconds to realize my error. You win some and lose some in life but only real idiots refuse to admit when they are wrong and learn from it.

If I ever start a company (even a side job) I will surely get some hats made up and handed out to you guys here! Hopefully by then Ellie can recommend a solid vendor!

Nope, he's selling us all hats! :)

Edit: Scratch that, it's hard to be a wise acre when the internet is so slow!

If I have done any good for poor Ellie today, maybe I will absorb some Hat-mail for her!! Not sure how i got this tar ball stuck to me, but I'll run with it!!

She's going to redirect all of the company emails your way after reading this!!

Hahaha that's a lot of damn hat mail, be prepared buddy!

Good stories.
I too punch the clock but I work for a small electrical company and have sacrificed a lot to have the trust my boss puts in me. When I started we were only made up of about 15 people or so. We're only up to 65 or so now, but I can only imagine the headache my boss has every waking moment. Having your own small business doesn't mean its all about you, its satisfying your customers and your employees. Its a challenge I know I'm not ready for any time soon.

I think their calling out for the president of the fan boy club. Lol. They're entitled to the opinions their experience has given them. The starter program wasn't done to get a huge lump of steel out over night. It was to help get a company off the ground. That's how it was laid out for everyone to read and make a decision to either help out or not. Some people just can't get over.
You're absolutely right. I didn't have the balls to get in there last night, but a lot of good points were made. I think for some who understood all the clear warnings about no definite delivery dates, they were confused or discouraged by some of the First Friday Newsletters. As in the "no deadline" was acceptable, but the predictions caused the lack of faith. Machines going down and late material deliveries are totally out of SURVIVE!s control. I really think the new sales format will shut a lot of people up. If they can sell what is already available on Mondays without ever having to make another prediction again, I feel like their business model will be much, much improved.

Yes, yes you did

I'm pretty sure Riz started a flashlight thread at one point. You should dig it up and post some pics!

I'd buy from ya too.
Then send an email every five minutes after my order was placed and complain cause its not here yet.
Haha yep!!
Where are our damn hats Redwood?!!
Hahahaha, you guys were quite the comedic duo on that one. I love it!

redwood, best of luck in however far you end up taking a business of your own. Like most great things it sounds terrifying and amazing. Count me in for a hat :p

Well that was fun being singled out. My bad for thinking that thread was in the Whine and Cheese sub forum in the first place.
